The Full Armor Of God For Battle Against Enemies Points To This One Man – Spiritual Warfare

The full armor of God for battle against enemies points to this one man – Spiritual warfare.

Unfortunately many people don’t know that we are in a War every second of every day.

Many people are oblivious to the forces battling around them.

This is no ordinary war. It’s a ferociously dangerous war for the souls, minds, hearts and spirits of men.

And it’s a war that has been raging from the dawn of mankind.

Some believers erroneously believe they have no enemy.

Some who know they have an enemy think the enemy they are fighting is weak.

Well, the enemies we fight are not weak. They are powerful.

But as believers in Jesus Christ we take strength and power in the knowledge that Jesus conquered the devil.

Jesus gave us authority over satan and his agents.

18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Luke 10:18-20

But that authority and power is useless if we don’t engage and use it.

We have to know who we are in Christ and to take up our rightful places of dominion.

The Full Armor of God Paul Wrote about in Ephesians 6:10-18 has been the subject of many sermons.

And the components of the armor need to be known by every believer.

When I personally think of the Armor of God, it points me to one man.

The Man Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Every piece of Armor speaks of Jesus and his preeminence.

So every time I put on my Armor I know I’m wearing Jesus Christ from

the crown of my head to the soles of my feet.

Let me illustrate.

Truth like a belt around your waist:

[Jesus is the Truth]

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6

Righteousness like armor on your chest:

[Jesus is our Righteousness]

30 But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption

1 Corinthians 1:30

Feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace:

[Jesus is the Prince of Peace]

6 For a child will be born for us,

a son will be given to us,

and the government will be on His shoulders.

He will be named

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

Shield of faith:

[Jesus the source and perfecter of our Faith]

2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.

Hebrews 12:2

Helmet of salvation:

[Jesus our Salvation]

9 After He was perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, 10 and He was declared by God a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 5:9-10

Sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word:

[Jesus the Word]

14 The Word became flesh

and took up residence among us.

We observed His glory,

the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father,

full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.

11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.

12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,

against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day,

and having prepared everything, to take your stand.

14 Stand, therefore,

with truth like a belt around your waist,

righteousness like armor on your chest,

15 and your feet sandaled with readiness

for the gospel of peace.

16 In every situation take the shield of faith,

and with it you will be able to extinguish

all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17 Take the helmet of salvation,

and the sword of the Spirit,

which is God’s word.

18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all

perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:10-18

Dear God, today we put on the full armor to guard our lives against attack. We put on the belt of truth to protect against lies and deception. We put on the breastplate of righteousness to protect our hearts from the temptations we battle. We put the gospel of peace on our feet, so we’re ready to take your light wherever you send us this day. We choose to walk in the peace and freedom of your Spirit and not be overcome with fear and anxious thoughts. We take up your shield of faith that will extinguish all the darts and threats hurled our way by the enemy. We believe in your power to protect us and choose to trust in you. We put on the helmet of salvation, which covers our minds and thoughts, reminding us we are children of the day, forgiven, set free, saved by the grace of Christ Jesus. We take up the sword of the Spirit, your very Word, the one offensive weapon given to us for battle, which has the power to demolish strongholds, alive, active, and sharper than any double-edged sword.

We ask for your help in remembering to put on your full armor every day, for you give us all that we need to stand firm in this world. Forgive us God for the times we’ve been unprepared, too busy to care, or trying to fight and wrestle in our own strength.

Thank you that we never fight alone, for you are constantly at work on our behalf, shielding, protecting, strengthening, exposing deeds of darkness, bringing to light what needs to be known, covering us from the cruel attacks we face even when we’re unaware. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
