Redefining and Classifying Love – Types of Love – Exploring Love In The New Age.

Over the years, I have heard love classified a variety of ways.

The most common psychology classification is the one in which love is grouped into seven categories.

I didn’t really believe any of those classifications as they didn’t make sense to me but for a few weeks now, a particular Bible passage has been niggling at the back of my mind.

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”

Matthew 24:12

And it’s on the basis of that passage that I have come up with my own rendition on the classification and types of love.

  1. Hot Love
  2. Cold Love

  3. Lukewarm Love

Let’s consider these three types of love further:

Love type number 3:

Lukewarm Love:

I like to think of this as the worst kind of love. People with lukewarm love are the one’s who are neither here or there. They have no idea what they want. They are indecisive and wishy washy. When I consider it, I think it consists of lying and false lures.

Revelations has this to say further on Lukewarm Love.

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Revelation 3:15-16

Love type number 2:

Cold Love:

This is love with no passion, ardor or fire. It consists of people who are insensitive, unfeeling and have buried their emotions.

In Matthew 24:12, Jesus is not saying people will not be able to love. They will love, except that their love will be cold.

Love type number 1:

Hot Love:

This is the best kind of love. Jesus wants us burning hot with desire and passion for him, the gospel and other people. Hot love is heavenly, holy, and from the heart. It pushes us beyond our bounds to give our all. It changes people and situations.

Hot Love Liberates, Cold Love Numbs and Lukewarm Love Destroys.

I pray we can all have hot love and burn with passion for Jesus. Let us not allow our love to die.
