You can see his vulnerability, you can taste his passion,
you can feel his human-ness as he unashamedly bares his heart out and tells of his battles, wars and life.
This is a man who is not afraid to be himself whatever situation life throws his way!
And he is portrayed in all these varied hues and colors.
As a humble, unknown, unremarkable shepherd boy
As a strong, fearless, brave soldier and warrior
As a loyal friend and companion
As a transgressor who lost his way
As a covetous murderer
As a daring lustful adulterer
As a patient, long suffering crown King with no Kingdom
As a father and family man hurt by his family
As a zealous, energetic, naked dancer
As a soulful, heart-touching singer and psalmist
As a repentant sinner who found his way to God
As a regal, wise, calm ruler and leader
As a creative writer and inventor and builder
As a focused, goal oriented man
Sometimes you can find him happy, sometimes he is sad.
Sometimes you find him singing and other times quiet.
Sometimes you find him dancing and other times sitting.
Sometimes you find him fighting and other times fleeing.
Sometimes you find him crying and weeping in grief.
Sometimes you find him laughing and boisterous.
Sometimes you find him confused and unsure of things.
Sometimes you find him confident and bold.
Sometimes he is wise, sometimes he is foolish.
Empathetic, kind, unkind, forgiving, ruthless.
Hopeful, despairing, loving, hating, angry, calm, fearful, brave.
Eating, fasting, praying, partying, dancing.
A king, a soldier, a warrior, a pauper, a shepherd, a conqueror, servant, ruler! A human being in all the hues and colors. His is a story worth volumes and tomes of books.
One would wonder what was so special about David’s heart?
Simple! It was a human heart! It was real!
Vulnerable, bleeding, aching, soft and yet it sought after God!
An imperfect heart that knew it needed someone greater and bigger and more powerful to live, breath and be.
One would think everyone can be a David.
But alas that ain’t happening, see most people don’t have human hearts. They have hard, robotic hearts that don’t function or feel.
I pray Jesus turns the hard, robotic hearts into soft feeling hearts. I pray Jesus offers healing for pain. Beauty for bareness. Praise for pain. I might be biologically female but I’m certainly like David, when it comes to chasing and pursing God’s heart. Yes, I’m a woman after God’s own heart.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.
