How Can You Obtain Hope That Never Fails – Hope In Jesus Christ.

Hope doesn’t always come easy. Especially when life backs you in a corner and you find yourself between a rock and a hard place. Sometimes it can be tempting to think that it’s just easier to throw in the towel and give up hope in Jesus because as we watch our situations they seem impossible and the odds are stack against us.

Unlike the world, that seeks for fleeting hope in passing fancies, as believers, the Bible tells us one of the ways we can develop and have hope. And this is how it goes.

When we suffer, we can rejoice, give thanks and glorify God because we know for a truth that our suffering and pain in not in vain.
We have an assurance that can’t be shaken and has been proven time and time again and by a large cloud of witnesses that our suffering produces perseverance.

Once we have developed perseverance, we have gone to another level of maturity as believers. It means we can wait. And even in that difficult place of waiting, we do it with grateful and thankful hearts. We push forward despite the tides. We press on because sure enough, our perseverance produces character.

Character is solid. Character does not back down. Character is not tossed about by strange doctrines and heresies. There is authority that comes with character.

And then once we have developed that character, we get HOPE!
Hallelujah! And that Hope that we develop, that hope in a savior who conquered death never puts us to shame. It’s solid! Legit! Praiseworthy.
You can take it to the bank or anywhere. It’s a hope that never fails or fades.

So, incase you are going through a difficult time right now and you are suffering, please chin up. Take heart. Glory in your suffering, that is just the beginning to a Hope that never puts us to shame.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:1-5

At What Time Is A Believer And Christian Justified – Spiritual Reading.

The Time Of Justification:

When is a believer justified? This question is answered plainly in one of our texts, Acts 13:39, “And by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which he could not be justified by the law of Moses.” What I wish you to notice particularly now in this verse is the word Is, “Everyone that believeth is justified from all things.” This answers plainly the question as to when a believer is justified.

In Christ Jesus every [believer in Him is justified from all things the moment he believes. The moment a man believes in Jesus Christ that moment he becomes united to Christ, and that moment God reckons the righteousness of God to him.

I repeat again, if the vilest murderer or sinner of any kind in the world should come into this room this morning while I am preaching and should here and now believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the moment that he did it, not only would every sin he ever committed be blotted out, but all the perfect righteousness of God in Christ would be put to his account, and his standing before God would be as perfect as it will be when he has been in heaven ten million years.

Let me repeat to you again the incident I told you one Sunday night some weeks ago. I was preaching one Sunday morning in the Moody church in Chicago on Rom. 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus,” and in the course of my preaching I said, “If the vilest woman there is in Chicago should come into the Chicago Avenue church this morning, and should here and now accept Jesus Christ as her Saviour, the moment she did it every sin she ever committed would be blotted out and her record would be as white in God’s sight as that of the purest woman in the room.”

Unknown to me, one of the members of my congregation that very morning had gone down into a low den of iniquity near the river and had invited a woman who was an outcast to come and hear me preach. The woman replied, “I never go to church. Church is not for the likes of me. I would not be welcome at the church if I did go.”

The woman who was a saint replied, “You would be welcome at our church,” which, thank God, was true. But, “No,” the woman urged, “it would not do for me to go to church, church is not for the likes of me.” But the woman who was a saint urged the woman who was a sinner to go. She offered to accompany her to the church, but the other said, “No, that would never do.

The policemen know me and the boys on the street know me and sometimes throw stones at me, and if they saw you going up the street with me they would think you such as I am.” But the woman who was a saint had the Spirit of the Master and said, “I don’t care what they think of me. If you will accompany me to hear Mr. Torrey preach I will go along with you.”

The other woman refused. But the saved woman was so insistent that the woman who was an outcast finally said, “If you will go up the street a few steps ahead I will follow you up the street.” So up La Salle Avenue they came, the woman who was a saint a few steps ahead and the woman who was a sinner a few steps behind. Block after block they came until they reached the corner of La Salle and Chicago Avenues.

The woman who was a saint entered the tower door at the corner, went up the steps, entered the church, and the woman who was a sinner followed her. On reaching the door the woman who was a sinner looked in, saw a vacant seat under the gallery in the very last row at the back, and slipped into it, and scarcely had she taken the seat when I made the remark that I just quoted, “If the vilest woman there is in Chicago should come into the Chicago Avenue church this morning and should here and now accept Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, the moment she did it every sin she ever committed would be blotted out and her record would be as white in God’s sight as that of the purest woman in the room.”

My words went floating down over the audience and dropped into the heart of the woman who was a sinner. She believed it, she believed that Jesus died for her, she believed that by the shedding of His blood she could be saved, she believed, and found pardon and peace and justification then and there.

And when the meeting was over she came up the aisle to the front as I stepped down from the pulpit, tears streaming down her face, and thanked me for the blessing that she had received.

And I repeat it here this morning, not knowing who may be here, not knowing what may be the secret life of any one of you who is here, not knowing what may be the sins that may be hidden in your heart, if the vilest man or woman on earth should come into the Church of the Open Door this morning and should here and now put their trust in Jesus Christ, the moment you did it every sin you ever committed would be blotted out and in an instant your record would be as white in God’s sight, not only as that of the purest woman in the room, but as that of the purest angel in heaven, and not only that, but all the perfect righteousness of God that clothed our Lord Jesus Christ would be put to your account and you would be just as near and just as dear to God as the Lord Jesus Christ Himself is. That is the doctrine of justification by faith. Wondrous doctrine! Glorious doctrine!

Can A Loving God Send You To A Real And Literal Hell – Spiritual Reading.

“In danger of the hell of fire.”—Matt. 5:22.

But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 5:22

I wish that the things that I am going to preach to you were not true. God wishes so, too, “The Lord is longsuffering to us ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). But God has made us in His own image, with a moral nature, with a capacity for self-determination, with a power of choice; and men can if they will choose darkness instead of light.

They can choose to trample God’s saving love under foot. They can choose to reject the One who was wounded for their transgressions and bruised for their iniquities, and upon whom the chastisement of their peace was laid; and some will so choose. I am sorry that they will. I would be willing to die to save them.

The Lord Jesus did die to save them. But they spurn Him. So these things that I am to speak to-night are true and I am going to preach them in order that you may know them, and in order that you may be sure of them. I am [going to preach about hell to keep as many of you as possible from going there.

Is There a Literal Hell? Almost all intelligent people who believe that there is a future life at all, believe that men and women who sin in the present life and who die impenitent and unsaved will be punished to some extent at least in the life that is to come. They believe that whoever sins must suffer, and that the suffering which sin causes will not be limited to this present life.

But, while almost all intelligent people who believe in a future life at all believe that there is some kind of future punishment, there are many that do not believe in a literal hell, that is, in a place of awful and unutterable torment. Is there a hell? Is there a place to which impenitent men and women will go some time after death and suffer agonies far beyond those that any one suffers here on earth? Some say, “yes,” there is a hell.

Many, even including not a few supposedly orthodox preachers, say, “No, the only hell is the inward hell in a man’s heart.” How are we to settle this question? How are we to determine who is right? We cannot settle it as some are trying to settle it by “counting noses.” Majorities are not always right. Especially is it true that majorities are not always right in science and in philosophy and in theology.

What the majority of scientists firmly believed a century ago the majority of scientists laugh at to-day. What the majority of philosophers once [believed, the majority of philosophers to-day regard as ridiculous. So majorities cannot always be right. And, therefore, we cannot settle this question by asking what the majority believe.

We cannot settle the question by reasoning as to what such a being as God must do, for how can finite and foolish man judge what an infinitely holy and infinitely wise God would do? Man never appears more foolish than when he tries to reason out what an infinite God must do. All these arguments about hell by reasoning as to what God must, or must not, do are stupid.

A child of seven cannot reason infallibly as to what a wise and good man of fifty will do, much less can puny creatures of the dust (such as you and I are, such as the most learned philosophers and theologians are) reason infallibly as to what an infinitely wise and infinitely holy God must do. It is, however, far easier to believe in a literal hell, and an everlasting hell, from the standpoint of pure reasoning to-day than it was three years and a half ago. Nevertheless, we cannot settle the question as to whether there is a literal hell by reasoning even to-day as to what such a being as God must do.

There is only one way to settle this question right, that is by going to the Bible and finding out what it says, and taking our stand firmly and unhesitatingly upon that. We have seen the last three Sunday nights that the Bible is beyond an honest question God’s word, so whatever the Bible says on this subject, or any other subject, is true and is sure.

Especially is it true that we must go to the Bible and find what it says in the matter of future punishment and future blessedness. All we know about the future is what the Bible tells us. All reasoning about the future outside of what the Bible tells us is pure guessing, it is a waste of time. We know nothing about heaven but what the Bible tells us, and we know nothing about hell but what the Bible tells us.

On a subject like this one ounce of God’s revelation is worth a thousand tons of man’s speculation. The whole question is what does the Bible say about Hell? But while we are dependent entirely upon the Bible, the Bible clearly reveals all that we need to know.

The Bible tells us a great deal about heaven, and it tells us still more about hell, and it is an interesting fact that the Lord Jesus Himself, whose authority many are ready to accept who do not accept the authority of the rest of the Bible, is the One Who tells us the most about hell, and the most clearly about hell. Indeed, all that I am going to show you is what the Lord Jesus Himself says on this subject.

What Is Character And Nature Of The Devil – Spiritual Reading

What Is Character And Nature Of The Devil - Spiritual Reading Blog Post Banner Image

What Is Character And Nature Of The Devil – Spiritual Reading.

1. First of all, the Bible teaches us that the [Devil is a person.

This comes out in our second text, 1 John 3:8: “The devil sinneth.” Only a person can sin. When we say that the Devil is a person we do not mean that necessarily he has a body, certainly not such a body as he is pictured as having in various paintings and engravings that are supposed to represent the Devil. A person is any being who knows and feels and wills. When we say that the Devil is a person we mean that he is a being who has intelligence, feeling and will, that he is not a mere principle of evil.

The personality of the Devil is taught over and over again in the Bible. Just a few illustrations in addition to our texts. Turn again to Matt. 13:19: “When any one heareth the word of God, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart.”

The representation of this passage is the representation of a person. He is called “The Evil One,” not merely “evil,” but “The Evil One,” which of course is the representation of a person. If evil is only impersonal, or if it only works through human beings, these words of our Lord Jesus would be without meaning.

The personality of the Devil comes out again very clearly and very forcibly in Eph. 6:10-12: “Finally, brethren, be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Here Paul distinctly tells us that the great reason why we need to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might and why we need to put on the whole armour of God, is because there is a being of great cunning, subtlety and power, a person named “The Devil,” and that this being has under him a multitude of other personalities of such dignity and power as to be called by the titles: “principalities,” “powers,” “world rulers,” “spiritual hosts of wickedness.”

Beyond a question our Lord Jesus, and the Apostle Peter and the Apostle John and the Apostle Paul believed in and taught the existence of a personal Devil. If there is not a personal Devil we may as well give up our Bible, for in that case it is a book that is full of folly and of fraud. If there is not a personal Devil we must give up our belief in the inspired authority of the Apostle Paul, the Apostle Peter, the Apostle John, and we must give up our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

No intelligent student of the Bible can retain his faith in the inspiration and authority of that Book, or his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, if he gives up belief in the existence of a personal Devil. As intelligent men and women, we must take our choice between believing in the existence of a personal Devil or giving up our faith in Jesus Christ and Christianity. Any system of doctrine that denies the existence of a personal Devil is radically unchristian whatever name it may arrogate to itself.

2. The second thing that the Bible teaches as to the nature of the Devil, is that, the Devil is a being of very great power and authority.

This comes out in the verses we have just read, Eph. 6:10, 11: “Finally be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” These words make it clear that the Devil is so mighty that the people of God cannot resist his cunning wiles without having on the whole armour of God, and it is also evident from the 10th verse that we cannot resist his power unless we are strengthened with the strength of God.

And this is not all: in the 12th verse we read: (12) “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

These are tremendous words. If they mean anything, they certainly mean that there are beings of great authority and dignity who are under the leadership of the one supreme being of evil, the Devil. The conflict that we have on hand as believers in Christ is terrific. The conflict that the Allies have on hand with the mighty military forces of the Kaiser is nothing to the battle we have on hand with the Devil and his hosts.

We are fools if we underestimate the battle. On the other hand, we must not over-estimate it. While our conflict is with the Devil, and while our wrestling is against “the principalities,” against “the powers,” against “the world-rulers,” against “the spiritual hosts of wickedness,” nevertheless He that is for us is far mightier than they. The Devil is mighty but our Saviour is almighty.

It is quite possible for one to become morbid over this subject of the Devil, and to become utterly discouraged and even deranged. That is entirely unnecessary and unwarranted. While our conflict is with the Devil and his mighty hosts, God has provided for us a strength and an armour whereby we may “be able to quench all the fiery darts of the Evil One” and to “withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand” (v. 13).

3. The third thing that the Bible teaches us as to the Nature of the Devil is that, the Devil is a being of great majesty and dignity of position.

Turn to Jude 8, 9: “Yet in like manner these also in their dreamings defile the flesh, and set at nought dominion, and rail at dignities (the literal translation of the Greek word rendered dignities is “glories“). (9) But Michael the Archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing judgment, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”

From these words it is evident that the position of the Devil was so exalted that even Michael the archangel did not dare to bring a railing judgment against him. The context seems to imply that the position of the Devil was more exalted than that of Michael the archangel himself. The Devil of the Bible is not at all the Devil of common thought. He is not a being hideous in appearance, with hoofs and horns and tail. He is not even the being pictured by Milton or Bunyan.

He is a being of very great original majesty and dignity, a being of great wisdom and power. When people talk lightly and contemptuously about the Devil they display gross ignorance of what the Bible teaches about him. It is true that he is evil in character and therefore called “The Evil One” (John 5:19, R. V.). It is true he is a liar and a murderer (John 8:44), it is true that he is full of malignity (II Cor. 4:4): but he is a being of great dignity and majesty, so that even Michael the archangel durst not bring against him a railing accusation.

4. The Bible teaches furthermore that the Devil is “the prince of this world.”

Our Lord Jesus Himself taught this. He says in John 12:31: “Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” The Greek word translated “world” in this passage is kosmos, and the thought is of the present world order, and our Lord’s teaching is that the Devil is the prince of this present world order.

We have the same teaching of our Lord in John 14:30, where we read: “I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me.” These words of our Lord [are found in what many regard as the most precious chapter in the Bible, the 14th chapter of John, and if we give up this teaching of our Lord regarding Satan we must give up, not merely the Bible as a whole, but this most precious chapter in the Bible. We find the Lord teaching the same thing again on that same night, the night before His crucifixion, in John 16:11 where he says: “The prince of this world is judged”—the evident reference being to Satan.

How the Devil came to be Prince of this world it may be impossible for us to say, but that he is so admits of no question, if we are to accept the teaching of Jesus Christ, and any one who will study the ruling principles of commercial life, of political life, of social life, and above all of international relations, to such an one it will become perfectly evident that the Devil is the one who is master of the present order of things.

If we ever doubted before that there was a Devil, and just such a Devil as the Bible pictures, we can scarcely doubt it now, when we consider the action of the rulers of the earth in this present mad world war. How could beings so intelligent in matters of science and philosophy and economics as the present rulers of Germany are, ever be guilty of plunging the nations of the earth into this mad war?

There is but one reasonable answer: because there is a Devil who rules the present Kosmos, or world order, and he controls the Kaisers and the Reichstags of the world and will until the true Prince comes, the Prince of Peace, our Lord Jesus Christ.

My Redeemer, King And Savior Lives | Jesus Christ – Spiritual Reading.

Continually have I spoken to the reader concerning Christ crucified, who is the great hope of the guilty; but it is our wisdom to remember that our Lord has risen from the dead and lives eternally.
You are not asked to trust in a dead Jesus, but in One who, though He died for our sins, has risen again for our justification. You may go to Jesus at once as to a living and present friend. He is not a mere memory, but a continually existent Person who will hear your prayers and answer them.

He lives on purpose to carry on the work for which He once laid down His life. He is interceding for sinners at the right hand of the Father, and for this reason He is able to save them to the uttermost who come unto God by Him. Come and try this living Saviour, if you have never done so before.
This living Jesus is also raised to an eminence of glory and power. He does not now sorrow as “a humble man before his foes,” nor labor as “the carpenter’s son”; but He is exalted far above principalities and power and every name that is named.

The Father has given Him all power in Heaven and in earth, and he exercises this high endowment in carrying out His work of grace. Hear what Peter and the other apostles testified concerning Him before the high priest and the council:
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins (Acts 5:30-31).

The glory which surrounds the ascended Lord should breathe hope into every believer’s breast. Jesus is no mean person–He is “a Saviour and a great one.” He is the crowned and enthroned Redeemer of men. The sovereign prerogative of life and death is vested in Him; the Father has put all men under the mediatorial government of the Son, so that He can quicken whom He will. He openeth, and no man shutteth.

At His word the soul which is bound by the cords of sin and condemnation can be unloosed in a moment. He stretches out the silver scepter, and whosoever touches it lives. It is well for us that as sin lives, and the flesh lives, and the devil lives, so Jesus lives; and it is also well that whatever might these may have to ruin us, Jesus has still greater power to save us.
All His exaltation and ability are on our account. “He is exalted to be,” and exalted “to give.”

He is exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour, that He may give all that is needed to accomplish the salvation of all who come under His rule. Jesus has nothing which He will not use for a sinner’s salvation, and He is nothing which He will not display in the aboundings of His grace. He links His princedom with His Saviour-ship, as if He would not have the one without the other; and He sets forth His exaltation as designed to bring blessings to men, as if this were the flower and crown of His glory.

Could anything be more calculated to raise the hopes of seeking sinners who are looking Christward? Jesus endured great humiliation, and therefore there was room for Him to be exalted. By that humiliation He accomplished and endured all the Father’s will, and therefore He was rewarded by being raised to glory. He uses that exaltation on behalf of His people.

Let my reader raise his eyes to these hills of glory, whence his help must come. Let him contemplate the high glories of the Prince and Saviour. Is it not most hopeful for men that a Man is now on the throne of the universe? Is it not glorious that the Lord of all is the Saviour of sinners? We have a Friend at court; yea, a Friend on the throne. He will use all His influence for those who entrust their affairs in His hands. Well does one of our poets sing:

He ever lives to intercede
Before His Father’s face;
Give Him, my soul, Thy cause to plead,
No doubt the Father’s grace.
Come, friend, and commit your cause and your case to those once pierced hands, which are now glorified with the signet rings of royal power and honor. No suit ever failed which was left with this great Advocate.

Where Is Your Hope For Life Found – Hope In Jesus Christ

Where Is Your Hope For Life Found – Hope In Jesus Christ.

Where is your Hope for life found?  Is it in your family, finances, friends, job, career, children, business, investments, beauty, money, intelligence, education, networks etc?

Sadly, putting your hope in the things mentioned above can put you to shame. In fact many people in the world have been put to shame by hoping in passing fancies. The only hope that never disappoints, that doesn’t fail and that doesn’t shame us is a hope in Jesus.

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 10:11-13

Are you going through a period of shame right now because you put your hope in the wrong places and people?

Don’t despair. You have an opportunity to put your Hope in Jesus who will never put you to shame. Hope in Jesus not only gives us peace, comfort and strength, but it pours love into our lives. Hope in Jesus is sure and it never fails.

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.

Hebrews 6:19-20

Hope in Jesus today and and watch him turn your shame to honor, glory and purity.

I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

Revelation 3:18-19

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4. perseverance, character; and character, hope.

 Romans 5: 3

According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

Boldly And Gladly Boasting In The Hope Of Glory – Hope In Jesus Christ.

As believers we can boldly stand and boast; Not in ourselves. Not in our achievements or our accolades or what we have been able to do.
Such boast is useless and leads to sin.

But boasting in the Hope of the glory of the Lord Jesus gives us peace, faith and perseverance. It helps us to push on.

The same way the disciples and believers before us pushed on, we too can.
The apostles and disciples had hope that their Messiah Jesus Christ would be glorified through them and so they pushed ahead.

When life got tough and they were suffering and being persecuted for their faith, they held onto the hope that their Lord was being gloried through their sufferings and tribulations.

While we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:13

Are you going through a particularly difficult time in your journey of Faith right now?

  • Is hope far?
  • Is hope lost?
  • Are you in despair?
  • Reached your wits end?
  • Don’t know where to turn?

You dear brother or sister can have Hope in the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can believe that he is using the situation you find yourself in to be glorified.

What a great honor and privilege to be chosen by the creator of the universe as vessels for his glory to shine through.

Don’t lose hope. Don’t despair. Hold on and Hope in the glory of God.

We have also obtained access through Him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. 5 This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Love Is Kind – The Healing Power Of Love

Love Is Kind – The Healing Power Of Love.

That year, my boyfriend had forgotten my birthday.
I didn’t take it as a big deal since I wasn’t exactly the party, celebration kind of girl. Plus, I rarely celebrated the day myself unless someone else decided to do it on my behalf. Most years, it just went by like any other day unless someone surprised me like happened that particular year.

I was therefore shocked when I got a call from a friend telling me, “When you are in town, please give me a call, I have something that has your name on it and belongs to you.”

When I eventually got to town, my friend had a package with a number of goodies and among them was the biggest, most expensive looking box of Chocolates I had ever seen in my life!

I looked at the box very surprised and speechless. He looked at me, not sure whether I was happy or not. So he went on to explain further, “I didn’t know what to get you. I wanted it to be a surprise so I didn’t ask whether you like chocolates or not. I hope you love them”

I then told him, ‘It’s not that. I’m just really deeply moved right now. That is why I’m speechless.’

He prodded me, “Go ahead and open the box. These are really delicious chocolates. Plus they are rare to find in these parts. I know you will love them.”

I told him, “No! I will open them later, when I’m home and settled. I want to savor them. Slowly and patiently.”

But something deeply intrigued me. So I asked him, ‘Why did you get me all this?’ He then proceeded to tell me, “Simply because I think you deserve this and much more.” I wasn’t very convinced, so I asked him, “Really? Is it not because it was my birthday a few days ago?”

He told me, “It was your birthday? Why didn’t you tell me? I didn’t know.”

I looked at him speechless and with my eyes a little misty. I don’t know if he saw the pain and untold stories in my eyes that day, but he went on to say, “You deserve every beautiful thing in this world.”

I just looked at him quietly. Deeply moved and speechless. I didn’t know what to tell him. But in my mind I kept thinking, ‘Wow! Wow! God still does create them like this! God you still make them this way, there is Hope for humanity after all.”

That day, as I meditated on the events that had happened, the word, Kindness took on a whole new meaning.
.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

The Depth, Height, Weight, Breadth Of Love - Rethinking Love In Today's World Blog Post Banner Image

The Depth, Height, Weight, Breadth Of Love – Rethinking Love In Today’s World.

A few weeks back, I got onto twitter and started tweeting about LOVE. That particular morning a few weeks back I had just re-read Paul’s letter in 1 Corinthians 13 with new eyes.

See, at that particular point in time, the notion of love really confounded me (In all fairness, I’m still confounded and learning).

I had movie definitions, dictionary definitions and novel definitions etc.
Anyhow, in my confusion, I read that chapter a few times and yet I still couldn’t get it. How could Paul say love never fails and yet I (mistakenly and supposedly) saw it failing all time? I was pathetically failing to grasp the slippery nuances of this verb or is it noun or is it emotion and thought it very powerless and a waste of precious time.

I mean how dare Paul write assertively, unperturbed and so assuredly about love walloping mighty, tough and hardened faith and hope? Was Paul for real?

Which world was Paul living in? Did Paul know about our current world? Did he even have any inkling at all about the various pressures we faced on a daily basis?

Hadn’t Paul heard people saying love was for the broke, weak and pathetic?
Hadn’t Paul heard that love doesn’t put food on the table?
Was there no pain during Paul’s time? Were people not killing each other over mundane things during his generation? Were the separation/break up/divorce rates not on the rise during his days? Were children not being abandoned, mistreated, thrown into toilets and onto the streets when he lived? Were there no starving and poor people during his age? Theft, robberies, abuse, pride, fear, insults, violence, gossip, slander, rage, deceit etc. Was Paul aware of such plagues or was he just waxing lyrical because he never got to live during the information/knowledge age?

I had too many questions (and no one to answer them) because most of the people I knew were too busy doing one thing or another to try and indulge me in my proclivities. I thus decided to put 1 Corinthians 13 aside.

Another reason was that the more I read that chapter, the more of a fraud I felt like. And wanting to save my skin and mind from dissonance, I decided to shelve it and to dwell on more promising aspects of life.

Anyhow, as God work’s sometimes one cheery morning without me even trying to, I finally got my EUREKA moment! And I went like! BINGO! That is it! This is in fact what Paul was saying when he wrote that famous chapter. It finally started dawning on me why Paul was waxing lyrical.

Paul’s letter says many things but I will share two today:

  • It doesn’t matter how well you communicate/speak/write etc. If you don’t have love, you are kidding yourself.
  • It doesn’t matter how prophetic, knowledgable, intelligent, talented and wise you are; If you don’t have love, don’t pamper yourself.
  • It doesn’t matter how much money/things/time/benefits you give to those less fortunate than you: If it’s not done out of love, you better keep your riches and enjoy them alone.
  • It doesn’t matter how much pain and abuse you can endure at the hands of tormentors. If you are not enduring out of love, please re-think your strategy.

In essence Paul is cautioning us thus:
All those sweeping, dramatic, public displays we keep engaging in, sometimes even with Videos, T.V’s, newspapers, the media helping us to record etc, don’t really matter if we are just doing them for appearances and are not doing it out of love, true humanity and humility.

I feel the chapter screaming:

  • Forget the public shows.
  • Forget the frivolities.
  • Forget the superficiality.
  • Forget the extravaganza.
  • Forget the plastic surgery.
  • Forget the revisions and correction.
  • Forget the spectacle and displays.

Just forget it all. Instead! Lets go DEEPER!

  • Don’t give me the facade.
  • Don’t show me crocodile tears.
  • Don’t show me your perfection.
  • Don’t show me the nice, decent clothes.
  • Don’t even bother with the manicured nails.

Show me your scars and wounds.
Show me the crevices and cracks.
Show me where it hurts the most.
Show me where you need healing.
Show me where I can attend to you.
Show me the dirt beneath your nails.
Show me your fears and vulnerabilities.

BUT

Show me the beauty too!
Show me the laughter, humor and fun.
Show me the whimsical plays and dreams.
Show me the delicate, cute and pretty lines too.
Show me the guffaws, chuckles, grins and smiles.
Show me YOU, in whatever hues and colors you are created.

Colored, black and white, sepia, with filters, as a portrait or as landscape, with borders or without, with a Lomo effect, HDR or Bokeh.
The applications don’t really matter.
As long as it is you and not a person/picture with no soul!
Some people are breathing but they have no souls. Show me a soul!

BUT please!
Don’t lament to me about other people’s realities.
Don’t share with me another person’s weaknesses.
Don’t tell me other people’s stories without their permission.
I don’t want those stories, myths, tales, fabrications.

Tell me your stories.
Tell me your realities.
Tell me about YOU!

Because:

Love goes deeper.
Love goes to the core.
Love doesn’t float on the surface.
Love is not conventional.
Love runs the extra mile.
Love doesn’t make sense.
Love is overwhelming.
Love beats logic and thinking.
Love goes further and longer.
Love removes bandaids and deals with wounds.
Love is not interested in the flowers, it wants the roots.
Love swims to the deep end and then submerges
itself and lets the torrents crash over it.
Love is grit, gentleness, grace all meshed into one to produce a tapestry of unimaginable dimensions.

And that is how this pathetic, seemingly, disturbing thing called LOVE manages to trump the ferocious, predominant, popular and powerfully menacing giants called Faith and Hope.

Thats how love beats knowledge, wisdom, beauty, talent, money, education, degrees, fashion and all the other trappings we have grown accustomed to.

For a moment, yes, take a pause please and:

  • Forget their names and locations!
  • Forget how people dress!
  • Forget how stinky their breath is!
  • Forget the tattoos on their bodies!
  • Forget the alcohol they drink!
  • Forget the drugs they binge on!
  • Forget the color of their skin!
  • Forget their religion and ideologies!
  • Forget their sins and favorite pass times!
  • Forget they haven’t taken a shower in days!
  • Forget the language in which speak or worship God!
  • Forget how pathetic and weak they look!
  • Forget the disfigurement and lack or refinement.

Forget all that! Forget all that! Forget it!

Now change your lenses;

Imagine this person was you. Imagine their story was yours.
Picture their reality as yours (I know this is too difficult for some people).
But still!
How would you want to be treated if the tables were suddenly turned (And this can happen at any time and to anyone).
Imagine for a moment you found yourself on the other side of the divide.

Hindus talk of reincarnation. Sometimes I wonder how people would behave if they knew that their present actions may get them reincarnated as something much lesser in another life. I wonder if this would influence how these folks treat others.

I will summarize by saying: Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church is saying that Love:

  • It is patient.
  • It is kind.
  • It doesn’t envy (e.g how come the pastors/corporations/other people are so successful and I’m so poor yet I do a, b, c etc. It’s just not fair).
  • It doesn’t boast.
  • It is not proud (I can never do that! My standards are too high).
  • It does not dishonor others (those who like exposing other peoples secrets, secluded battles, nudes and other private information for sinister motives without permission).
  • It is not self seeking (Me! Me! Myself and I kind of philosophies).
  • It is not easily angered (doesn’t mean it doesn’t get angry. Just means the tempers are even and not short).
  • It keeps no record of wrongs (Lord help our memories).
  • It doesn’t delight in evil.
  • It rejoices with the truth.
  • It always protects.
  • It always trusts.
  • It always hopes.
  • It always perseveres.

Love never fails.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Hope itself is like a star- not to be seen in the sunshine of prosperity and only to be discovered in the night of adversity.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Of all the things in the world to be dreaded, despair is the chief. When a man is in the depths of despair, he is ready for all sorts of sins. When fear discourages him action is dangerous. But when fear has weakened him and his conscience is powerless to guide him, the vultures circle him waiting for their prey. As long as a man has hope for himself you may have hope for him.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“When Christ died on the cross, our hopes began. When He arose, they were confirmed. When He ascended on high, they began to be fulfilled. When He comes a second time, they will be realized.”

“We need winds and tempests to exercise our faith, to tear off the rotten bough of self-dependence, and to root us more firmly in Christ. The day of evil reveals to us the value of our glorious hope.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“My sole hope for heaven lies in the full atonement made upon Calvary’s cross for the ungodly. On that I firmly rely.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“There is no hope for you but in Christ. Rest assured that all the mercy of God is concentrated in the Cross. I hear some talk about the uncovenanted mercies of God—there is no such things. The mercies of God are all emptied out into the Covenant. God has put all His grace into the Person of Christ and you shall have none elsewhere. Trust, then, in Christ—so you shall be blessed, but you shall be blessed nowhere else.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Grace within us will employ prayer, and faith, and hope, and love, to cast out the evil; it takes unto it the “whole armour of God,” and wrestles earnestly. These two opposing natures will never cease to struggle so long as we are in this world.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’s blood and righteousness: I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesu’s name.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Whatever troubles come, let us play the man; let us show that we are not such little children as to be cast down by what may happen in this poor fleeting state of time. Our country is Immanuel’s land, our hope is above the sky, and therefore, calm as the summer’s ocean; we will see the wreck of everything earth-born, and yet rejoice in the God of our salvation.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The eclipse of your faith, the darkness of your mind, the fainting of your hope, all these things are but parts of God’s method of making you ripe for the great inheritance upon which you shall soon enter.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Waiting trains our grace. Waiting tries our faith. Therefore, wait on in hope, because even though the promise seems to be delayed, it can never come too late.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“It is of no use to hope that we shall be well rooted if no rough winds pass over us. Those old gnarlings on the root of the oak tree, and those strange twistings of the branches, all tell of the many storms that have swept over it, and they are also indicators of the depth into which the roots have forced their way. So the Christian is made strong, and firmly rooted by all the trials and storms of life. Shrink not then from the tempestuous winds of trial, but take comfort, believing that by their rough discipline God is fulfilling this benediction to you.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“If I am not today all that I hope to be, yet I see Jesus, and that assures me that I shall one day be like Him.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“And so my Master, who is the great ark of salvation, did not come into this world to save only a few little sinners. “He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him.” Look on him there. See him on the cross, in extreme agony, enduring countless griefs and torments, and sweating in agony, all because of his love for you who were his enemies. Trust him. Trust him, because there is hope, there is restoration.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The bleeding, dying, rising Saviour, is the only star of hope to a sinner. Oh for grace to come now and drink, ere the sun sets upon the year’s last day!”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Moses grew weary, and then his friends assisted him. When at any time your prayer flags, let faith support one hand, and let holy hope uplift the other, and prayer seating itself upon the stone of Israel, the rock of our salvation, will persevere and prevail.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Our country is Immanuel’s land, our hope is above the sky, and therefore, calm as the summer’s ocean; we will see the wreck of everything earthborn, and yet rejoice in the God of our salvation.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Forgive, as you hope to be forgiven.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“One of these days you who are now a ‘babe’ in Christ shall be a ‘father’ in the church. Hope for this great thing; but hope for it as a gift of grace, and not as the wages of work, or as the product of your own energy.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“If thou canst wait for Christ, and be patient in the hope of having fellowship with him at some distant season, thou wilt never have fellowship at all; for the heart that is fitted for communion is a hungering and a thirsting heart.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The delight which the mariner feels, when, after having been tossed about for many a day, he steps again upon the solid shore, is the satisfaction of a Christian when amidst all the changes of this troublous life, he rests the foot of his faith upon this truth—‘I am the Lord, I change not.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“I do not come into this pulpit hoping that perhaps somebody will of his own free will return to Christ. My hope lies in another quarter. I hope that my Master will lay hold of some of them and say, “You are mine, and you shall be mine. I claim you for myself.” My hope arises from the freeness of grace, and not from the freedom of the will.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, He is my righteousness.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Experienced Christian, boast not in your experience; you will trip yet if you look away from him who is able to keep you from falling. Ye whose love is fervent, whose faith is constant, whose hopes are bright, say not, “We shall never sin,” but rather cry, “Lead us not into temptation.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“If you will select me the grossest specimen of humanity, if he be but born of woman, I will have hope of him yet, because Jesus Christ is come to seek and to save sinners.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The day of evil reveals to us the value of our glorious hope.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, he is my righteousness. My faith rests not upon what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what he has done, and in what he is now doing for me.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“O Jesus, what a comfort it is that thou hast pleaded our cause against our unseen enemies; countermined their mines, and unmasked their ambushes. Here is a matter for joy, gratitude, hope, and confidence.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“And it seems to me I can, it seems to me I can open the little wicket gate, and cry, “There is hope!” The one who said there is no hope is a liar and a murderer from the beginning, and the father of lies. There is hope because Jesus died. There is hope everywhere except in the infernal lake of fire.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Value the blood of Christ as the foundation of your hope, but never speak disparagingly of the work of the Spirit which is your meetness for the inheritance of the saints in light. This day let us so live as to manifest the work of the Triune God in us.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“It is of no use to hope that we shall be well rooted—if no rough winds pass over us.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Men are in a restless pursuit after satisfaction in earthly things. They will exhaust themselves in the deceitful delights of sin, and, finding them all to be vanity and emptiness, they will become very perplexed and disappointed. But they will continue their fruitless search. Though wearied, they still stagger forward under the influence of spiritual madness, and though there is no result to be reached except that of everlasting disappointment, yet they press forward. They have no forethought for their eternal state; the present hour absorbs them. They turn to another and another of earth’s broken cisterns, hoping to find water where not a drop was ever discovered yet.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“When Christ died on the cross our hopes began, when he rose they were confirmed, when he went up on high they began to be fulfilled, when he comes a second time they will be realized.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“A man might as well hope to fight a swarm of flies with a sword as to master his own thoughts when they are set on by the devil.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The eclipse of your faith, the darkness of your mind, the fainting of your hope, all these things are but parts of God’s method of making you ripe for the great inheritance upon which you shall soon enter. These trials are for the testing and strengthening of your faith–they are waves that wash you further upon the rock–they are winds which waft your ship the more swiftly towards the desired haven.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“We will this year gather celestial fruits on earthly ground, where faith and hope have made the desert like the garden of the Lord.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Blessed be His name that He has arranged that one Person of the Sacred Trinity should undertake this office of Comforter, for no man could ever perform its duties. We might as well hope to be the Savior as to be the Comforter of the heartbroken.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“If I had to sum up the gospel I should have to tell you certain facts: Jesus, the Son of God, became man; he was born of the virgin Mary; lived a perfect life; was falsely accused of men; was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God; from whence he shall also come to judge the quick and the dead. This is one of the elementary truths of our gospel; we believe in the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the life everlasting.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Oh, the wondrous power in the scripture to create a soul of hope within the ribs of despair and bring eternal light into the darkness that has made a long midnight in the inmost soul!”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Nothing is more deadly than self-righteousness, or more hopeful than contrition.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“It is always beneficial to praise the Lord; it cheers the day and brightens the night; it lightens toil and softens sorrow; and over earthly gladness it sheds a sanctifying radiance which makes it less liable to blind us with its glare. Have we not something to sing about at this moment? Can we not weave a song out of our present joys, or our past deliverances, or our future hopes.”

A Loving Personality Dominates The Bible – Love, Family, And Relationship Quotes – Aiden Wilson Tozer.

“Refuse to be average. Let your heart soar as high as it will.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“When we try to focus our thought upon One who is pure uncreated being we may see nothing at all, for He dwelleth in light that no man can approach unto. Only by faith and love are we able to glimpse Him as He passes by our shelter in the cleft of the rock.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“If we cooperate with Him in loving obedience, God will manifest Himself to us, and that manifestation will be the difference between a nominal Christian life and a life radiant with the light of His face.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Faith is an organ of knowledge, and love an organ of experience.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Only to sit and think of God, Oh what a joy it is! To think the thought, to breathe the Name; Earth has no higher bliss. Father of Jesus, love’s reward! What rapture will it be, Prostrate before Thy throne to lie, And gaze and gaze on Thee.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The greatest encouragement throughout the Bible is God’s love for His lost race and the willingness of Christ, the eternal Son, to show forth that love in God’s plan of redemption. The love of Jesus is so inclusive that it knows no boundaries. At the point where we stop caring and loving, Jesus is still there loving and caring.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Mere acquaintance with correct doctrine is a poor substitute for Christ and familiarity with New Testament eschatology will never take the place of a love-inflamed desire to look on His face.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The love of Christ both wounds and heals, it fascinates and frightens, it kills and makes alive, it draws and repulses. There can be nothing more terrible or wonderful than to be stricken with love for Christ so deeply that the whole being goes out in a pained adoration of His person, an adoration that disturbs and disconcerts while it purges and satisfies and relaxes the deep inner heart.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Love casts out fear, for when we know we are loved, we are not afraid. Whoever has God’s perfect love, fear is gone out of the universe for him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus’ fist, but by His nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Let me seek Thee in longing,” pleaded Anselm, “let me long for Thee in seeking; let me find Thee in love, and love Thee in finding.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Spinoza wrote of the intellectual love of God, and he had a measure of truth there; but the highest love of God is not intellectual, it is spiritual. God is spirit and only the spirit of man can know Him really. In the deep spirit of a man the fire must glow or his love is not the true love of God.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Spiritual sophistication lacks freshness and warmth; God is far away, and there is little communion and little joy in the Lord. To have a cold heart with little pity, little fire, little love and little worship is spiritual lethargy.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“You can see God from anywhere if your mind is set to love and obey Him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“We can exaggerate about many things; but we can never exaggerate our obligation to Jesus, or the compassionate abundance of the love of Jesus to us. All our lives long we might talk of Jesus, and yet we should never come to an end of the sweet things that might be said of Him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“God is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful that He can, without anything other than Himself, meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature is.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The great of the Kingdom have been those who loved God more than others did.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“It is doubtful whether God can bless a man greatly until he has hurt him deeply.” God actually rises up storms of conflict in relationships at times in order to accomplish that deeper work in our character. We cannot love our enemies in our own strength. This is graduate-level grace. Are you willing to enter this school? Are you willing to take the test? If you pass, you can expect to be elevated to a new level in the Kingdom. For He brings us through these tests as preparation for greater use in the Kingdom. You must pass the test first.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“But when, through the open door of the cross and the name and power of Jesus Christ, I commend myself to the Father’s heart, then God cancels all my past, accepts all my present, swears His holy name for my future and the love of God take me over. Then fear goes out of my heart, because love has come in.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“All things as they move toward God are beautiful, and they are ugly as they move away from Him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Yet if we would know God and for other’s sake tell what we know we must try to speak of his love. All Christians have tried but none has ever done it very well. I can no more do justice to that awesome and wonder-filled theme than a child can grasp a star. Still by reaching toward the star the child may call attention to it and even indicate the direction one must look to see it. So as I stretch my heart toward the high shining love of God someone who has not before known about it may be encouraged to look up and have hope.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“In the deep of His mighty nature God thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, desires, and suffers as any other person may.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“I trust I speak in love, but the lack in our pulpits is real. Milton’s terrible sentence applies to our day as accurately as it did to his: “The hungry sheep look up, and are not fed.” It is a solemn thing, and no small scandal in the kingdom, to see God’s children starving while actually seated at the Father’s table.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“We might be wise to follow the insight of the enraptured heart rather than the more cautious reasoning of the theological mind.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Here is a masterly study of the inner life by a heart thirsting after God, eager to grasp at least the outskirts of His ways, the abyss of His love for sinners, and the height of His unapproachable majesty.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“We are often hindered from giving up our treasures to the Lord out of fear for their safety. This is especially true when those treasures are loved relatives and friends. But we need have no such fears. Our Lord came not to destroy but to save. Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is really safe which is not so committed.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“What God made, God loves, because it’s inconceivable that God should make anything that He didn’t love.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“We can exaggerate about many things; but we can never exaggerate our obligation to Jesus, or the compassionate abundance of the love of Jesus to us.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The labor of self-love is a heavy one indeed. Think for yourself whether much of your sorrow has not arisen from someone speaking slightingly of you. As long as you set yourself up as a little god to which you must be loyal there will be those who will delight to offer affront to your idol. How then can you hope to have inward peace?”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“A loving Personality dominates the Bible, walking among the trees of the garden and breathing fragrance over every scene.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“There may be a right opinion of God without either love or one right temper toward Him. Satan is a proof of this.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The work of Christ on the cross did not influence God to love us, did not increase that love by one degree, did not open any fount of grace or mercy in His heart. He had loved us from old eternity and needed nothing to stimulate that love. The cross is not responsible for God’s love; rather it was His love which conceived the cross as the one method by which we could be saved. God felt no different toward us after Christ had died for us, for in the mind of God Christ had already died before the foundation of the world. God never saw us except through atonement. The human race could not have existed one day in its fallen state had not Christ spread His mantle of atonement over it. And this He did in eternal purpose long ages before they led Him out to die on the hill above Jerusalem. All God’s dealings with man have been conditioned upon the cross.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“But the sons of this world have not God; they have only each other, and they walk holding to each other and looking to one another for assurance like frightened children.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Trying to be happy without a sense of God’s presence is like trying to have a bright day without the sun.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The vague and tenuous hope that God is too kind to punish the ungodly
has become a deadly opiate for the consciences of millions. There is within the human heart a tough fibrous root of fallen life whose nature is to possess, always to possess. It covets `things’ with a deep and fierce passion. The pronouns `my’ and `mine’ look innocent enough in print, but their constant and universal use is significant. They express the real nature of the old Adamic man better than a thousand volumes of theology could do. They are verbal symptoms of our deep disease. The roots of our hearts have grown down into things, and we dare not pull up one rootlet lest we die. Things have become necessary to us, a development never originally intended. God’s gifts now take the place of God, and the whole course of nature is upset by the monstrous substitution.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The continuous and unembarrassed interchange of love and thought between God and the soul of the redeemed man is the throbbing heart of New Testament religion.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Let her love God as He is in Himself, and not as her imagination says He is, and pictures Him.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“We get the odd notion that God is showing mercy because Jesus died. No. Jesus died because God is showing mercy.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Millions call themselves by His name, it is true, and pay some token homage to Him, but a simple test will show how little He is really honored among them. Let the average man be put to the proof on the question of who or what is ABOVE, and his true position will be exposed. Let him be forced into making a choice between God and money, between God and men, between God and personal ambition, God and self, God and human love, and God will take second place every time. Those other things will be exalted above. However the man may protest, the proof is in the choice he makes day after day throughout his life.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Therefore I pray in the words of Thy great servant of old, “I beseech Thee so for to cleanse the intent of mine heart with the unspeakable gift of Thy grace, that I may perfectly love Thee and worthily praise Thee.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“When God looks at a sinner who still loves his sin and rejects the mystery of the atonement, justice condemns him to die. When God looks at a sinner who has accepted the blood of the everlasting covenant, justice.”

Love Is An Exotic – Love, Family, And Relationship Quotes – Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

“There must be knowledge of God before there can be love to God: there must be a knowledge of divine things, as they are revealed, before there can be an enjoyment of them.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Love is an exotic; it is not a plant which will flourish naturally in human soil, it must be watered from above. Love to Jesus is a flower of a delicate nature, and if it received no nourishment but that which could be drawn from the rock of our hearts it would soon wither.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“In the Salem of our peaceful hearts, the name of Jesus is great beyond compare: He has won our love, and He shall wear it.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Faith goes up the stairs that love has built and looks out the windows which hope has opened.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“God could not have given this promise, except from love and grace; therefore it is quite certain his Word will be fulfilled.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“There is no physician like Him, none can save as He can; we love Him, and He loves us, and therefore we put ourselves into His hands, accept whatever he prescribes, and do whatever He bids.We feel that nothing can be wrongly ordered while He is the director of our affairs; for He loves us too well to let us perish, or suffer a single needless pang.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“O child of God, be more careful to keep the way of the Lord, more concentrated in heart in seeking His glory, and you will see the loving-kindness and the tender mercy of the Lord in your life.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“He who does not hate the false does not love the true; and he to whom it is all the same whether it be God’s word or man’s, is himself unrenewed at heart.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“My Lord, I leave the infinite to Thee, and pray Thee to put far from me such a love for the tree of knowledge as might keep me from the tree of life.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Love and self-denial for the object loved go hand-in-hand. If I profess to love a certain person, and yet will neither give my silver nor my gold to relieve his wants, nor in any way deny myself comfort or ease for his sake, such love is contemptible; it wears the name, but lacks the reality of love: true love must be measured by the degree to which the person loving will be willing to subject himself to crosses and losses, to suffering and self-denials. After all, the value of a thing in the market is what a man will give for it, and you must estimate the value of a man’s love by that which he is willing to give up for it.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Love should give wings to the feet of service, and strength to the arms of labour.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Oh, the stoop of the Redeemer’s amazing love! Let us, henceforth, contend how low we can go side by side with Him, but remember when we have gone to the lowest He descends lower still, so that we can truly feel that the very lowest place is too high for us, because He has gone lower still.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“I would not give a penny for your love to the truth if it is not accompanied with a hearty hatred of error.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“For the least love to God, and the simplest act  of obedience to him, are better than the profoundest knowledge. My  Lord, I leave the infinite to thee, and pray thee to put far from me  such a love for the tree of knowledge as might keep me from the tree of  life.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Slavish fear brings not back the backslider to God, but the sweet wooings of love allure him to Jesus’ bosom.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“You must be conquerors through him who hath loved you, if conquerors at all. Our laurels must grow among his olives in Gethsemane.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“I bear my witness that the worst days I have ever had have turned out to be my best days. And when God has seemed most cruel to me he has then been most kind. If there is anything in this world for which I would bless him more than for anything else it is for pain and affliction. I am sure that in these things the richest tenderest love has been manifested to me. Our Father’s wagons rumble most heavily when they are bringing us the richest freight of the bullion of his grace. Love letters from heaven are often sent in black-edged envelopes. The cloud that is black with horror is big with mercy. Fear not the storm. It brings healing in its wings and when Jesus is with you in the vessel the tempest only hastens the ship to its desired haven.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Jesus does not cherish an offense, loving us as well after the offense as before it.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“No dependence can be placed upon our natural qualities, or our spiritual attainments; but God abideth faithful. He is faithful in His love; He knows no variableness, neither shadow of turning. He is faithful to His purpose; He doth not begin a work and then leave it undone. He is faithful to His relationships; as a Father He will not renounce His children, as a friend He will not deny His people, as a Creator He will not forsake the work of His own hands.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Shame on our cold hearts! We are but poor lovers of our sweet Lord Jesus, not fit to be his servants, much less to be his brides, and yet he hath exalted us to be bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh, married to him by a glorious marriage covenant. Herein is love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“God loves the church with a love too deep for human imagination: He loves her with all His infinite heart. Therefore let her sons be of good courage; she cannot be far from prosperity.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Wean our heart from every creature Thee to love and Thee alone.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“God’s Fatherly prerogative, ” is a kingly attribute so sweetly veiled in love, that the King’s crown is forgotten in the King’s face, and His sceptre becomes, not a rod of iron, but a silver sceptre of mercy—the sceptre indeed seems to be forgotten in the tender hand of Him who wields it.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Nothing but the infinite can ever satisfy me; I am such a great sinner that I must have infinite merit to wash my sin away;” but we have had our sin removed, and found that there was merit to spare; we have had our hunger relieved at the feast of sacred love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“To have sweet sleep we must have sweet lives, sweet tempers, sweet meditations, and sweet love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“O, the breadth of the love of Christ! Shall such a love as this have half our hearts? Shall it have a cold love in return? Shall Jesus’ marvellous lovingkindness and tender care meet with but faint response and tardy acknowledgment? O my soul, tune thy harp to a glad song of thanksgiving! Go to thy rest rejoicing, for thou art no desolate wanderer, but a beloved child, watched over, cared for, supplied, and defended by thy Lord.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Let me be on my guard when the world puts on a loving face, for it will, if possible, betray me as it did my Master, with a kiss.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“To trust him is the sure way to every blessing, and he is worthy of the most implicit confidence; but unbelief makes them prefer the cold porches of Bethesda to the warm bosom of his love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Love for God is obedience; love for God is holiness. To love God and to love man is to be conformed to the image of Christ, and this is salvation.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“But, Lord, we have yet another burden — it is that we ourselves do not love Thee as we should.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Men will allow God to be everywhere but on his throne. They will allow him to be in his workshop to fashion worlds and make stars. They will allow Him to be in His almonry to dispense His alms and bestow his bounties. they will allow Him to sustain the earth and bear up the pillars thereof, or light the lamps of heaven, or rule the waves of the ever-moving ocean; but when God ascends Hes throne, His creatures then gnash their teeth. And we proclaim an enthroned God, and His right to do as He wills with His own, to dispose of His creatures as He thinks well, without consulting them in the matter; then it is that we are hissed and execrated, and then it is that men turn a deaf ear to us, for God on His throne is not the God they love. But it is God upon the throne that we love to preach. It is God upon His throne whom we trust.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Christ loved the sons of men before there were sons of men, and me before there was me. If he was going to get tired of me, he would have done so before now.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Then no attribute of God can cease to be engaged for us. Is he mighty? He will show himself strong on the behalf of them that trust him. Is he love? Then with lovingkindness will he have mercy upon us. Whatever attributes may compose the character of Deity, every one of them to its fullest extent shall be engaged on our side.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“But, Lord, we have yet another burden — it is that we ourselves do not love Thee as we should.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The more unworthy you feel yourself to be, the more evidence have you that nothing but unspeakable love could have led the Lord Jesus to save such a soul as yours. The more demerit you feel, the clearer is the display of the abounding love of God in having chosen you, and called you, and made you an heir of bliss.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“I feel myself to be a lump of unworthiness, a mass of corruption, and a heap of sin, apart from His almighty love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“May the Lord bring us in contemplation to Calvary, then our position will no longer be that of the pompous man of pride, but we shall take the humble place of one who loves much because much has been forgiven him. Pride cannot live beneath the cross. Let us sit there and learn our lesson, and then rise and carry it into practice.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Though you wear your fingers to the bone with service, weep your eyes out with repentance, make your knees hard with kneeling, and dry your throat with shouting, if your heart does not beat with love, your religion falls to the ground like a withered leaf in autumn.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Humiliation of soul always brings a positive blessing with it. If we empty our hearts of self, God will fill them with his love.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Our gifts are very pleasant to Him. He loves to see us lay our time, our talents, our substance on the altar not for the value of what we give, but for the sake of the motive from which the gift springs.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Is not the gospel its own sign and wonder? Is not this a miracle of miracles, that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish’? Surely that precious word, ‘Whosoever will, let him come and take the water of life freely’ and that solemn promise, ‘Him that cometh unto Me, I will in no wise cast out,’ are better than signs and wonders! A truthful Saviour ought to be believed. He is truth itself. Why will you ask proof of the veracity of One who cannot lie?”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“There is no repentance where a man can talk lightly of sin, much less where he can speak tenderly and lovingly of it.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Zeal–what is it? How shall I describe it? Possess it, and you will know what it is. Be consumed with love for Christ, and let the flame burn continuously, not flaming up at public meetings and dying out in the routine work of every day.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“The intensity of the love of the upright is not so much to be judged by what it appears as by what the upright long for. It is our daily lament that we cannot love enough.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Oh, blessed trust! To trust Him . . . whose power will never be exhausted, whose love will never wane, whose kindness will never change, whose faithfulness will never fail, whose wisdom will never be confounded, and whose perfect goodness can never know a diminution!”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Come in, O strong and deep love of Jesus, like the sea at the flood in spring tides, cover all my powers, drown all my sins, wash out all my cares, lift up my earth bound soul, and float it right up to my Lord’s feet, and there let me lie, a poor broken shell, washed up by his love, having no virtue or value; and only venturing to whisper to him that if he will put his ear to me, he will hear within my heart faint echoes of the vast waves of his own love which have brought me where it is my delight to lie, even at his feet for ever.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“That same spirit which makes us love the praise of men makes us dread the threats of men. You cannot be pleased with the adulation of mankind without becoming fearful of tour censure.”

Charles Haddon Spurgeon

It Is The Season Of The Blessed Hope – Hope, Assurance And Comfort Quotes – Aiden Wilson Tozer.

“The vague and tenuous hope that God is too kind to punish the ungodly has become a deadly opiate for the consciences of millions.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Abounding sin is the terror of the world, but abounding grace is the hope of mankind.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“When God created the heavens and the earth, darkness was upon the face of the deep. When the Eternal Son became flesh, He was carried for a time in the darkness of the sweet virgin’s womb. When He died for the life of the world, it was in the darkness, seen by no one at the last. When He arose from the dead, it was ,’very early in the morning.” No one saw Him rise. It is as if God were saying, “What I am is all that need matter to you, for there lie your hope and your peace. I will do what I will do, and it will all come to light at last, but how I do it is My secret. Trust Me, and be not afraid.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“To believe actively that our Heavenly Father constantly spreads around us providential circumstances that work for our present good and our everlasting well-being brings to the soul a veritable benediction. Most of us go through life praying a little, planning a little, jockeying for position, hoping but never being quite certain of anything, and always secretly afraid that we will miss the way. This is a tragic waste of truth and never gives rest to the heart.”

“The ancient image of God whispers within every man of everlasting hope; somewhere he will continue to exist. Still he cannot rejoice, for the light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world troubles his conscience, frightening him with proofs of guilt and evidences of coming death. So is he ground between the upper millstone of hope and the nether stone of fear.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“What God in His sovereignty may yet do on a world-scale I do not claim to know. But what He will do for the plain man or woman who seeks His face I believe I do know and can tell others. Let any man turn to God in earnest, let him begin to exercise himself unto godliness, let him seek to develop his powers of spiritual receptivity by trust and obedience and humility, and the results will exceed anything he may have hoped in his leaner and weaker days.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Let us beware of tinkering with our inner life in hope ourselves to rend the veil. God must do everything for us. Our part is to yield and trust. We must confess, forsake, repudiate the self-life, and then reckon it crucified. But we must be careful to distinguish lazy “acceptance” from the real work of God. We must insist upon the work being done. We dare not rest content with a neat doctrine of self-crucifixion. That is to imitate Saul and spare the best of the sheep and the oxen.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Holiness, as taught in the Scriptures, is not based upon knowledge on our part. Rather, it is based upon the resurrected Christ in-dwelling us and changing us into His likeness.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“The only cross in all of history that was turned into an altar was the cross on which Jesus Christ died. It was a Roman cross. They nailed Him on it, and God, in His majesty and mystery, turned it into an altar. The Lamb who was dying in the mystery and wonder of God was turned into the Priest who offered Himself. No one else was a worthy offering.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Let any man turn to God in earnest, let him begin to exercise himself unto godliness, let him seek to develop his powers of spiritual receptivity by trust and obedience and humility, and the results will exceed anything he may have hoped in his leaner and weaker days.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“If you were fine like an archangel, made thousands of dollars, never failed and never fumbled, you would be a saint, and there would be no place in God’s grace for you. Because you are the kind of person you are and have fits of slipping back a little, the grace of God operates toward you. This is your hope. So I say, be cheerful, be hopeful, dare to rise and say, “I’ll not sit and be gloomy anymore. I will dare to believe that the grace of God, that vast grace of God, is big enough for me.”

Aiden Wilson Tozer

“Let us be alert to the season in which we are living. It is the season of the Blessed Hope, calling for us to cut our ties with the world and build ourselves on this One who will soon appear. He is our hope—a Blessed Hope enabling us to rise above our times and fix our gaze upon Him.”

How To Restore Your Mind, Spirit, Soul, Body, Heart And Recover From Pain - Healing Blog Post Banner Image

How To Restore Your Mind, Spirit, Soul, Body, Heart And Recover From Pain – Healing

Many people don’t like talking about pain because there is a sort of shame and guilt that society often attaches to pain and suffering.

This therefore leads most people to burying their wounds and never fulling recovering and experiencing restoration.

There are many types of wounds;

Some deep, some superficial, and some very close to the core.

Wounds can be caused by a number of things like burns, falls, car accidents, animal bites, physical abuse etc.

The list above is filled with physical causes of wounds and pain. But what about other kinds of wounds and pain?

I hope you understand that human beings are not one dimensional. We are made of five dimensions; Mind, Body, Soul, Heart and Spirit.

We are so intricately and magnificently created. The creator sure knew what he was doing when he was making man.

The scriptures testify thus:

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Psalms 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalms 139_14 Bible Verse Instagram Post

If you have a bodily or physical wound, you can go to a doctor and he fixes you.

But what about the kind of pain and wounds we can’t see?

Wounds buried in our souls, hearts, minds and spirit?

Let us take an example of soul wounds.

Because it’s difficult to see a soul, some people ignore soul wounds but the more these kinds of hurts are ignored, the deeper they grow and fester.

Sometimes, they grow so deep, we forget who we are.

They become so intense until we are shadows of ourselves.

They grow so deep, we fail to find a cure and in turn seek out destructive and temporary escapes.

Some try to find a cure in drugs and pills. Others try sex and comforts in the bodies of others.

Some try to drown the pain in a bottle or a hobby. But after awhile, and after much trying, they feel emptier and worse than when they started.

The above fixes don’t heal soul wounds. If you try any of the above, the pain will keep tormenting you through flash blacks and memories.

You will never find a cure in drugs, pills, sex, alcohol, hobbies or video games.

A number of things can cause our pains:

The list may go something like:

Hurt and disappointment by friends, family or just the world.
or
Betrayal by loved ones.
or
Domestic abuse and violence.
or
Sexual abuse.
or
Loss of loved ones
And
The list goes on and on.

After awhile, pure souls can become dark and scary places. And dark souls can lead to hard and bitter hearts.

But thank God for a cure. Yes! There is but one cure for soul wounds.

LOVE is that balm and cure.

Love heals and restores. It is able to lead to recovery and redemption.

God’s love is the ultimate antidote but human love is good too.

As you go out today, please love a soul. It could be a smile, a hug, a kiss, a kind word, a wave of the hand.

Whatever little you can do, please do. You just don’t know whose medicine and balm you might be.

The sages have said that words have the power to convey love and provide therapy.

Poetry is one of those ways we can creatively share love.

Wounds!

Deep gashes and slashes

Wounds that live in the soul

Some leave scars

But some keep bleeding

You can see and feel them

In angry words

In rude faces

In unkind acts.

Wounds!

They can be healed

Love heals

Love washes scars away

So The Poor Have Hope – Hope Bible Verses

So The Poor Have Hope – Hope Bible Verses Blog Post Banner Image

So The Poor Have Hope – Hope Bible Verses.

Biblical Job lost his children, his wealth and his health. And yet despite the cruel blows life dealt him, he held onto Hope for better. He trusted that his God and redeemer would rescue him. And God did indeed restore back to him all he had lost.

So what lessons can we learn from Job about Hope in the midst of despair, hopelessness, pain and suffering?

1. However difficult the situation, however tempting it maybe please don’t let go of your integrity. Integrity is a part of righteousness which is also a component of the full armor of God for spiritual warfare. Maintain your integrity because someday it will give you hope for better times.

Is not your reverence your confidence?

And the integrity of your ways your hope?

Job 4:6

2. If you are poor. Whether spiritually, materially, emotionally or in any way, have Hope and assurance that the Lord God almighty will save you from your poverty and need if you maintain your trust in him.

15 But He saves the needy from the sword,

From the mouth of the mighty,

And from their hand.

16 So the poor have hope,

And injustice shuts her mouth.

Job 5:15-16

3. If you put your trust in God and his promises you have cause to Hope because the Lord makes secure those who seek him for help and trust in him.

18 And you would be secure, because there is hope;

Yes, you would dig around you, and take your rest in safety.

19 You would also lie down, and no one would make you afraid;

Yes, many would court your favor.

Job 11:18-19

4. If there is Hope for a Tree which can be easily cut down, there is Hope for you and whatever situation you are facing right now.

7 “For there is hope for a tree,

If it is cut down, that it will sprout again,

And that its tender shoots will not cease.

8 Though its root may grow old in the earth,

And its stump may die in the ground,

9 Yet at the scent of water it will bud

And bring forth branches like a plant.

Job 14:7-9

5. If you find yourself questioning life and God like Job when life deals you a cruel hand, please put your Hope and trust in the Lord Jesus because he never fails and he will never fail anyone who comes to him for help.

11 “What strength do I have, that I should hope?

And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

12 Is my strength the strength of stones?

Or is my flesh bronze?

13 Is my help not within me?

And is success driven from me?

14 “To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend,

Job 6:11-14

The Song of Songs has been called Names Like:

. The Song Of Solomon.

. The Best Song.

. Songs.

The Songs of Songs was written by King Solomon and it is filled with allegories, metaphors, imagery and direct messages that teach us a number of things on Love;

  1. The Love Between Jesus as the Bridegroom and His Bride The Church.
  2. The Love Between A Man and Woman.
  3. The Love Between God and Israel his Nation.

The Songs of Songs also provides Christian romantics with prose, poetry and lyrics they can share with their spouses and partners to spice their unions and add color. Below are some of my favorite Bible Verses on love from the Song of Songs.

Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, It would be utterly despised.

Song of Songs 6:4

Tell me, O you whom I love,
Where you feed your flock,
Where you make it rest at noon.
For why should I be as one who veils herself
By the flocks of your companions?

Song of Songs 1:6-7

Behold, you are fair, my love!
Behold, you are fair!
You have dove’s eyes.

Song of Songs 1:14-15

I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys. The Beloved 2 Like a lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters.

Song of Songs 2:1-2

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, Do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases.

Song of Songs 8:4

He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love. 5 Sustain me with cakes of raisins, Refresh me with apples, For I am lovesick.

Song of Songs 2:4-5

By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. 2 “I will rise now,” I said, “And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.” I sought him, but I did not find him. 3 The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, “Have you seen the one I love?” 4 Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me.

Song of Songs 3: 1- 4

How fair is your love, My sister, my spouse! How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes than all spices!

Song of Songs 4:10

Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm;
For love is as strong as death.

Song of Songs 8:6

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—For your love is better than wine. 3 Because of the fragrance of your good ointments, Your name is ointment poured forth; Therefore the virgins love you.

Song of Songs 1:2-3

How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!

Song of Songs 7:6

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16

You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Leviticus 19:18

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 7:7-8

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

Deuteronomy 7:9

I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been very pleasant to me; Your love to me was wonderful, Surpassing the love of women.

2 Samuel 1:26

You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deuteronomy 13:3

And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you.

Deuteronomy 7:13

Hate evil, love good; Establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Amos 5:15

‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 19:33-34

What Does Love Mean To Children

What does love mean to children as they grow up?

What does love mean to children as they grow up?

Are we teaching children the true meaning of love and helping them not only know the love of Jesus Christ but love for others?

I found five children at the park and decided to ask them what love meant to each of them. They gave me some delightful answers.

Thomas – Age 6 – “Love is when Daddy tucks me in to sleep at night and reads me a story.”

Jenny – Age 5 – “Love is when mummy buys me dolls and treats.”

Benjamin – Age 5 – “Love is being all nice and good.”

Gerry – Age 7 – “Love is when my mummy and my daddy kiss and look at each other with that look in their eyes.”

Regina – Age 6 – “When my friend Destiny shares her toys and snacks with me while we are playing, that is love.

Ritu is a working mother who has two adorable children.

She shares her experiences on, “What love means to kids”  in an awesome blog post. Her post was inspired by a question she asked her two children on what love meant to them.

Her children gave very creative  responses.

In answering the question, they imaginatively expressed themselves by drawing pictures, writing posts and some very heart warming poetry. She starts her fabulous blog post by telling us:

“I asked my children what love meant, and both of them, at separate times, mad faces at me, and went “Yuck!” Typical reactions for an 11 and 9-year-old! Love = boys/girls = kissing. Of course, that’s ‘yuck’ to them! After a little more explanation, the best we came up with was this; Lil Man There” …….

As we help children learn how to love wholesomely, we should remember to teach them the 1 Corinthians 13Bible definition of love which I summarized as:

Love is patient

Love is kind.

Love does not envy

Love is not boastful

Love is not puffed up

Love does not act improperly

Love is not selfish

Love is not provoked

Love thinks no evil

Love does not keep a record of wrongs

Love takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but has joy in what is true

Love bears all things

Love believes all things

Love hopes all things

Love endures all things

Love never fails

Healing From Alcoholism – Hope – Powerful Stories

Healing From Alcoholism – Hope – Powerful Stories.

Addiction is a real bondage and struggle for many people in our world today. Alcohol, Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, Cigarettes, Sex, Porn, Violence, Dirty Language, Shopping and the List goes on and on.

The amplification in the number of people suffering addiction might explain the increase in the number of Rehabilitation centers, services and health workers.

Addiction not only causes challenges for the person who is bound but also for his/her family, friends and the community.

With the strong pull and lack of self-control that many addicts experience, is there hope for freedom?

With addicts fresh from Rehab, relapsing and ending right back in treatment, is there healing and redemption?

Self-control is one of the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit. Self-control helps us say no to addictions, sin and iniquity.

Are you struggling to quit a behavior that is holding you captivity and bound?

Then come to Jesus, repent and ask him to fill you with his Holy Spirit. There is always room at the cross and Jesus is eagerly waiting for you.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:5-8

To give further inspiration and encouragement, I’m sharing the story of Billy Buc who struggled with Alcoholism for many years but managed to break free from his addiction and has been sober for 9 years. He starts one of his articles by giving us some amazing news.

“On November 16th I celebrated nine years of sobriety. Life is good! I have completely changed my life in nine years. I have completely changed my lifestyle in nine years, and I’ve completely…..”

Daily Finances And Business – Life Lessons From The Hidden Treasure And Pearl – Parable.

The parable of the hidden treasure and pearl is three short verses long and yet there is a lot it teaches on prudent living, faith, God, heaven, business, finance and investment. Reading it, the first lesson that immediately becomes obvious to me is what it teaches about the Kingdom of heaven and God. Many believers can testify about the many sacrifices they have made or the various comforts they have given up for the promise of a far greater and more precious treasure.

The Bible itself is also filled with many people like Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David etc who gave up the temporary for the permanent (Hebrews Chapter 11 provides more in-depth knowledge of this). As with many parables in the bible, we can glean more than one lesson from the same parable. From this particular parable, we can also glean wisdom and knowledge on how to manage our daily financial obligations in order to live victorious and prudent lives.

In this blog post, I delve into the wisdom this parable provides in how to manage our investments and business situations in the present world. Below, I collected a list of 17 business pearls from various experts in Finance which I believe correlates with the pearls of wisdom the parable of the hidden treasure and pearl provides. I would also love to hear from you. What lessons does this parable teach you?

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

To Give Them Beauty For Ashes – Hope In Jesus Christ

To Give Them Beauty For Ashes – Hope In Jesus Christ.

Sometime’s life burns us. Many of us walk through life burnt by our experiences.

  • Pain.
  • Failure.
  • Divorce.
  • Sickness and disease.
  • Death of loved ones.
  • Loss of jobs and careers.
  • Romantic relationships gone sore.
  • Disappointments from family members.
  • Betrayal from friends and family.

And as we go through life, many of carry our ashes in jars. We carry around our ashes in the form of pain and bitterness, not willing to let go. Despite all the pain, bitterness and ashes that we carry around, can we learn to find beauty in the ashes?

Can our ashes carry blessings despite their ugliness and dolor?

Many centuries before Jesus came to this Earth, the prophet Isaiah prophesied about Jesus, telling us what the ministry of the Messiah would be about:

“To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Isaiah 61:3

And when Jesus came, he confirmed Isaiah’s words as told by the Apostle Luke:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”

Luke 4:18-22

Even to this day, Jesus is still able to give us:

  • Beauty for Ashes
  • Plenty for Scarcity
  • Pleasure for Pain
  • Healing for Sickness
  • Laughter for Sorrow
  • Praise for Suffering
  • Worship for Self-pity
  • Blessings for Curses

Thank God, we can find beauty in our ashes. Katie Noah Gibson courageously shares her experiences in how she found blessings in the ashes.

“I flipped the kitchen calendar to April this weekend, as a mix of snow and sleet swirled down outside the windows. This wasn’t quite the April Fool’s blizzard of 20 years ago, but it was still a proper nor’easter: more like February than April. Both Nature’s clock and my internal one seem to be off……”

To Get Rid Of An Enemy One Must Love Him And Other Love Quotes – Leo Tolstoy.

Leo Tolstoy also known as Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy was a Famous Russian Nobleman, Writer and Philosopher who became a Christian Anarchist after going through a Spiritual Awakening.

He believed in Nonviolent Resistance in achieving political transformation. In addition to his more famous works like, “War and Peace”, he wrote a Spiritual book titled, “The Kingdom Of God is Within You” which I encourage you to read because of it’s depth into spiritual matters.

Based on his writings, one is moved by how he believed in Love and it’s power. Below we found some amazing quotes he wrote on love. We hope you enjoy them.

We are asleep until we fall in love! - Leo Tolstoy Quote Social Media Square Image

Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source.”

Leo Tolstoy

“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.”

Leo Tolstoy

Love. The reason I dislike that word is that it means too much for me, far more than you can understand.”

Leo Tolstoy

“I’ve always loved you, and when you love someone, you love the whole person, just as he or she is, and not as you would like them to be.”

Leo Tolstoy

Everything I know, I know because of love - Leo Tolstoy Quote Social Media Square Image

Yes, love, …but not the love that loves for something, to gain something, or because of something, but that love that I felt for the first time, when dying, I saw my enemy and yet loved him. I knew that feeling of love which is the essence of the soul, for which no object is needed. And I know that blissful feeling now too. To love one’s neighbours; to love one’s enemies. To love everything – to Love God in all His manifestations. Some one dear to one can be loved with human love; but an enemy can only be loved with divine love. And that was why I felt such joy when I felt that I loved that man. What happened to him? Is he alive? …Loving with human love, one may pass from love to hatred; but divine love cannot change. Nothing, not even death, can shatter it. It is the very nature of the soul. And how many people I have hated in my life. And of all people none I have loved and hated more than her…. If it were only possible for me to see her once more… once, looking into those eyes to say.”

Leo Tolstoy

“I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love.”

Leo Tolstoy

“Everything I know, I know because of love.”

Leo Tolstoy

“We are asleep until we fall in love!”

Leo Tolstoy

“He went down trying not to look long at her, as though she were the sun, but he saw her, as one sees the sun, without looking.”

Leo Tolstoy

What counts in making a happy marriage is not so much how compatible you are but how you deal with incompatibility - Leo Tolstoy Quote Social Media Square Image

Again?
Mother this is getting too much
I told you
I don’t like milk anymore
I want something new
I want a new diet
Something a little more challenging
Something like millet bread
Mother, don’t you see?
I’m now a man!
Don’t you see?
I can do as I want now.
Mother, please!
Stop treating me like a child.
Again?
Son, don’t be so quick to speak this way
You now talk of change
You say you don’t like milk anymore
You say you want millet bread instead
You say you want a little more challenge
You say you are now a man!
But my son,
I hope you don’t forget that you are still my son
You can do what you want to do,
But everything is not beneficial to you
Somethings, require wisdom
So, go slow in these new desires
And it’s true that you are not a child anymore
But you will always be my son.

Bible Verse:

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3 O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.

In learning about love, I searched and found these totally awesome Bible verses on love, illustrating both God’s love and human love from the New Testament that I think you will find helpful.

We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

1 John 4:19-21

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:7-10

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins - 1 Peter 4_8 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

1 Peter 3:8-10

Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble - 1 Peter 3_8 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Hebrews 6:10-12

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

Colossians 3:12-14

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Countless times in my life, I have felt like the sinful woman Luke writes about in the Bible. And more times than I can remember and for various reasons, I have found myself at my Savior’s feet, weeping and telling him , ‘Lord, here is my Alabaster Jar. I don’t have much to give you my King and I know I’m not worthy but can you please accept the little I bring? Can you please take my alabaster jar and everything left in it.

I don’t know if it’s the amount of tears I shed or the multiple shards of my heart scattered at his feet, but instead of him sending me away like everyone has, my King looks down at me with the deepest, most heart shattering compassion and enfolds me in his grace and mercy.

My dear friends, its amazing what happens to my tears. They dry up! Its astonishing what happens to my broken pieces. They become whole! I know he hears my pleas, because after the deep, heart drenching sobs I feel lighter. I feel like a butterfly or maybe superwoman? Like there is nothing impossible. My soul  soars.

This blog is all about faith, hope and love. And it’s amazing how much faith and love Jesus commends, this woman for. Can you imagine that? Jesus saying this nameless and sinful woman has great love and faith?

Wow! The Bible text doesn’t specify what sins she had committed or how terrible she had been! All she is called is a sinful woman. And in the same text, all we know is that Jesus also calls her a woman of immense love and faith.

The oxymoron I tell you. Juxtapositions aside, this story illustrates in a powerful way, what great things Love and Faith can accomplish. This woman gets her sins forgiven and she gets her peace back. She is accepted. She is loved.

Yes! This is such an empowering story and I think it’s telling us: Doesn’t matter how much sin you are carrying. Nothing matters. Doesn’t matter how impossible your situation is. All you need is love and faith. That’s all that matters. Love and faith!

I hope after reading this, someone will be encouraged to have faith and to trust Jesus with their Alabaster Jar. It doesn’t matter how little Perfume you have left in your jar. It doesn’t even matter whether you are male or female. Young or old, the Messiah is patiently waiting for you to approach him. To add context, I have included the Bible passage which writes about the sinful woman. At the end of the passage, there is a piece of poetry.

“A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. 39. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.” 40. Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41. “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43. Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44. Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
46. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48. Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49. The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50. Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Sin!

.
They make it sound so dirty
They make it sound like a jail sentence
They make it sound irredeemable
They make it sound condemned

But they don’t tell you the whole truth

.
They don’t tell you how to wash clean
They don’t tell you of freedom
They don’t tell you, you are redeemable
They don’t tell of forgiveness

So here is the truth

.
You can be clean
You can be free
You can be redeemed
You can be forgiven
All you need is to believe in the Messiah
