Does Money Answer All Things – The Bible And The Bitcoin Question.

King Solomon had this to say about Money, Wine and feasts.

“A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.”

Ecclesiastes 10:19

“Money answers everything.” That is a pretty deep statement.

And in our highly materialistic world, this can be a very tempting statement to push one into investing in any venture that seems like it will increase the bank balance.

Many people joined the Bitcoin craze and some people apparently reaped astronomically from trading in it.

But before some people crash as they rush, I felt that we shouldn’t ignore some of the red flags that keep blinking. While I believe poverty is not of the Lord, I also believe that Jesus expects us to handle finances with wisdom and not blind ignorance.

First what is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency.

What is a Cryptocurrency?

A cryptocurrency  is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange that uses cryptography to secure its transactions, to control the creation of additional units, and to verify the transfer of assets. Cryptocurrencies are classified as a subset of digital currencies and are also classified as a subset of alternative currencies and virtual currencies.”

If you need to learn more about cryptocurrencies, you can read here.

Warren Buffett a great investor and one of the richest men in the world calls it, “FOMO – Fear of Missing Out.”

After many months of rising and exciting people, last week came as a surprise as many saw the Bitcoin Market Crash taking various markets with it as various sources reported.

  1. Largest Bitcoin exchange temporarily halts buying and selling amid price mini-crash
  2. Bitcoin Crashed and Took the Whole Market Down With It
  3. Bitcoin and almost every other cryptocurrency crashed hard today
  4. Coinbase Goes Down as Bitcoin Plunges

So, Money might answer everything in the world, since we need it to acquire so many things, but we also need Wisdom as we navigate it’s sloppy steeps.

I guess that is why before writing Ecclesiastes Chapter 10, King Solomon had this to say earlier in Chapter 7.

For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

Ecclesiastes 7:12

Implying that wisdom and knowledge are more excellent than Money since they give Life.

So while we seek money to answer the many needs and questions that this life keeps throwing us, we shouldn’t forget Jesus’s powerful words about priorities.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33
