How Is Forgiveness And Repentance For Sins Given – Spiritual Reading.

To return to the grand text: “Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.” Our Lord Jesus Christ has gone up that grace may come down. His glory is employed to give greater currency to His grace. The Lord has not taken a step upward except with the design of bearing believing sinners upward with Him.

He is exalted to give repentance; and this we shall see if we remember a few great truths. The work which our Lord Jesus has done has made repentance possible, available, and acceptable. The law makes no mention of repentance, but says plainly, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” If the Lord Jesus had not died and risen again and gone unto the Father, what would your repenting or mine be worth?

We might feel remorse with its horrors, but never repentance with its hopes. Repentance, as a natural feeling, is a common duty deserving no great praise: indeed, it is so generally mingled with a selfish fear of punishment, that the kindliest estimate makes but little of it. Had not Jesus interposed and wrought out a wealth of merit, our tears of repentance would have been so much water spilled upon the ground.

Jesus is exalted on high, that through the virtue of His intercession repentance may have a place before God. In this respect He gives us repentance, because He puts repentance into a position of acceptance, which otherwise it could never have occupied.
When Jesus was exalted on high, the Spirit of God was poured out to work in us all needful graces.

The Holy Ghost creates repentance in us by supernaturally renewing our nature, and taking away the heart of stone out of our flesh. Oh, sit not down straining those eyes of yours to fetch out impossible tears! Repentance comes not from unwilling nature, but from free and sovereign grace. Get not to your chamber to smite your breast in order to fetch from a heart of stone feelings which are not there.

But go to Calvary and see how Jesus died. Look upward to the hills whence comes your help. The Holy Ghost has come on purpose that He may overshadow men’s spirits and breed repentance within them, even as once He brooded over chaos and brought forth order. Breathe your prayer to Him, “Blessed Spirit, dwell with me. Make me tender and lowly of heart, that I may hate sin and unfeignedly repent of it.” He will hear your cry and answer you.

Remember, too, that when our Lord Jesus was exalted, He not only gave us repentance by sending forth the Holy Spirit, but by consecrating all the works of nature and of providence to the great ends of our salvation, so that any one of them may call us to repentance, whether it crow like Peter’s cock, or shake the prison like the jailer’s earthquake. From the right hand of God our Lord Jesus rules all things here below, and makes them work together for the salvation of His redeemed.

He uses both bitters and sweets, trials and joys, that He may produce in sinners a better mind toward their God. Be thankful for the providence which has made you poor, or sick, or sad ; for by all this Jesus works the life of your spirit and turns you to Himself. The Lord’s mercy often rides to the door of our hearts on the black horse of affliction. Jesus uses the whole range of our experience to wean us from earth and woo us to Heaven.

Christ is exalted to the throne of Heaven and earth in order that, by all the processes of His providence, He may subdue hard hearts unto the gracious softening of repentance. Besides, He is at work at this hour by all His whispers in the conscience, by His inspired Book, by those of us who speak out of that Book, and by praying friends and earnest hearts. He can send a word to you which shall strike your rocky heart as with the rod of Moses, and cause streams of repentance to flow forth.

He can bring to your mind some heart-breaking text out of Holy Scripture which shall conquer you right speedily. He can mysteriously soften you, and cause a holy frame of mind to steal over you when you least look for it. Be sure of this, that He who is gone into His glory, raised into all the splendor and majesty of God, has abundant ways of working repentance in those to whom He grants forgiveness. He is even now waiting to give repentance to you. Ask Him for it at once.

Observe with much comfort that the Lord Jesus Christ gives this repentance to the most unlikely people in the world. He is exalted to give repentance to Israel. To Israel! In the days when the apostles thus spoke, Israel was the nation which had most grossly sinned against light and love, by daring to say, “His blood be on us and on our children.” Yet Jesus is exalted to give them repentance! What a marvel of grace! If you have been brought up in the brightest of Christian light, and yet have rejected it, there is still hope.

If you have sinned against conscience, and against the Holy Spirit, and against the love of Jesus, there is yet space for repentance. Though you may be as hard as unbelieving Israel of old, softening may yet come to you, since Jesus is exalted, and clothed with boundless power. For those who went the furthest in iniquity, and sinned with special aggravation, the Lord Jesus is exalted to give to them repentance and forgiveness of sins.

Happy am I to have so full a gospel to proclaim! Happy are you to be allowed to read it! The hearts of the children of Israel had grown hard as an adamant stone. Luther used to think it impossible to convert a Jew. We are far from agreeing with him, and yet we must admit that the seed of Israel have been exceedingly obstinate in their rejection of the Saviour during these many centuries.

Truly did the Lord say, “Israel would none of me.” “He came to his own and his own received him not.” Yet on behalf of Israel our Lord Jesus is exalted for the giving of repentance and remission. Probably my reader is a Gentile; but yet he may have a very stubborn heart, which has stood out against the Lord Jesus for many years; and yet in him our Lord can work repentance.

It may be that you will yet feel compelled to write as William Hone did when he yielded to divine love. He was the author of those most entertaining volumes called the ” Everyday Book,” but he was once a stout–hearted infidel. When subdued by sovereign grace, he wrote:

The proudest heart that ever beat
Hath been subdued in me;
The wildest will that ever rose
To scorn Thy cause and aid Thy foes
Is quell’d my Lord, by Thee.
Thy will, and not my will be done,
My heart be ever Thine;
Confessing Thee the mighty Word,
My Saviour Christ, my God, my Lord,
Thy cross shall be my sign.

(All of Grace) The Lord can give repentance to the most unlikely, turning lions into lambs, and ravens into doves. Let us look to Him that this great change may be wrought in us. Assuredly the contemplation of the death of Christ is one of the surest and speediest methods of gaining repentance. Do not sit down and try to pump up repentance from the dry well of corrupt nature.

It is contrary to the laws of mind to suppose that you can force your soul into that gracious state. Take your heart in prayer to Him who understands it, and say, “Lord, cleanse it. Lord, renew it. Lord, work repentance in it.” The more you try to produce penitent emotions in yourself, the more you will be disappointed; but if you believingly think of Jesus dying for you, repentance will burst forth.

Meditate on the Lord’s shedding His heart’s blood out of love to you. Set before your mind’s eye the agony and bloody sweat, the cross and passion; and, as you do this, He who was the bearer of all this grief will look at you, and with that look He will do for you what He did for Peter, so that you also will go out and weep bitterly. He who died for you can, by His gracious Spirit, make you die to sin; and He who has gone into glory on your behalf can draw your soul after Him, away from evil, and toward holiness.

I shall be content if I leave this one thought with you; look not beneath the ice to find fire, neither hope in your own natural heart to find repentance. Look to the Living One for life. Look to Jesus for all you need between Hell Gate and Heaven Gate. Never seek elsewhere for any part of that which Jesus loves to bestow; but remember, Christ is all.

Should Forgiveness Of Sins Go With Repentance – Spiritual Reading.

It is Clear from the text which we have lately quoted that repentance is bound up with the forgiveness of sins. In Acts 5:31 we read that Jesus is “exalted to give repentance and forgiveness of sins.” These two blessings come from that sacred hand which once was nailed to the tree, but is now raised to glory. Repentance and forgiveness are riveted together by the eternal purpose of God. What God hath joined together let no man put asunder.

Repentance must go with remission, and you will see that it is so if you think a little upon the matter. It cannot be that pardon of sin should be given to an impenitent sinner; this were to confirm him in his evil ways, and to teach him to think little of evil. If the Lord were to say, “You love sin, and live in it, and you are going on from bad to worse, but, all the same, I forgive you,” this were to proclaim a horrible license for iniquity.

The foundations of social order would be removed, and moral anarchy would follow. I cannot tell what innumerable mischiefs would certainly occur if you could divide repentance and forgiveness, and pass by the sin while the sinner remained as fond of it as ever. In the very nature of things, if we believe in the holiness of God, it must be so, that if we continue in our sin, and will not repent of it, we cannot be forgiven, but must reap the consequence of our obstinacy.

According to the infinite goodness of God, we are promised that if we will forsake our sins, confessing them, and will, by faith, accept the grace which is provided in Christ Jesus, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

But, so long as God lives, there can be no promise of mercy to those who continue in their evil ways, and refuse to acknowledge their wrongdoing. Surely no rebel can expect the King to pardon his treason while he remains in open revolt. No one can be so foolish as to imagine that the Judge of all the earth will put away our sins if we refuse to put them away ourselves.

Moreover, it must be so for the completeness of divine mercy. That mercy which could forgive the sin and yet let the sinner live in it would be scant and superficial mercy. It would be unequal and deformed mercy, lame upon one of its feet, and withered as to one of its hands. Which, think you, is the greater privilege, cleansing from the guilt of sin, or deliverance from the power of sin?

I will not attempt to weigh in the scales two mercies so surpassing. Neither of them could have come to us apart from the precious blood of Jesus. But it seems to me that to be delivered from the dominion of sin, to be made holy, to be made like to God, must be reckoned the greater of the two, if a comparison has to be drawn. To be forgiven is an immeasurable favor.

We make this one of the first notes of our psalm of praise: “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities.” But if we could be forgiven, and then could be permitted to love sin, to riot in iniquity, and to wallow in lust, what would be the use of such a forgiveness? Might it not turn out to be a poisoned sweet, which would most effectually destroy us? To be washed, and yet to lie in the mire; to be pronounced clean, and yet to have the leprosy white on one’s brow, would be the veriest mockery of mercy.

What is it to bring the man out of his sepulcher if you leave him dead? Why lead him into the light if he is still blind? We thank God, that He who forgives our iniquities also heals our diseases. He who washes us from the stains of the past also uplifts us from the foul ways of the present, and keeps us from failing in the future. We must joyfully accept both repentance and remission; they cannot be separated. The covenant heritage is one and indivisible, and must not be parceled out. To divide the work of grace would be to cut the living child in halves, and those who would permit this have no interest in it.

I will ask you who are seeking the Lord, whether you would be satisfied with one of these mercies alone? Would it content you, my reader, if God would forgive you your sin and then allow you to be as worldly and wicked as before? Oh, no! The quickened spirit is more afraid of sin itself than of the penal results of it.

The cry of your heart is not, “Who shall deliver me from punishment?” but, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Who shall enable me to live above temptation, and to become holy, even as God is holy?” Since the unity of repentance with remission agrees with gracious desire, and since it is necessary for the completeness of salvation, and for holiness’ sake, rest you sure that it abides.

Repentance and forgiveness are joined together in the experience of all believers. There never was a person yet who did unfeignedly repent of sin with believing repentance who was not forgiven; and on the other hand, there never was a person forgiven who had not repented of his sin. I do not hesitate to say that beneath the copes of Heaven there never was, there is not, and there never will be, any case of sin being washed away, unless at the same time the heart was led to repentance and faith in Christ. Hatred of sin and a sense of pardon come together into the soul, and abide together while we live.

These two things act and react upon each other: the man who is forgiven, therefore repents; and the man who repents is also most assuredly forgiven. Remember first, that forgiveness leads to repentance. As we sing in Hart’s words:

Law and terrors do but harden,
All the while they work alone;
But a sense of blood–bought pardon
Soon dissolves a heart of stone.

When we are sure that we are forgiven, then we abhor iniquity; and I suppose that when faith grows into full assurance, so that we are certain beyond a doubt that the blood of Jesus has washed us whiter than snow, it is then that repentance reaches to its greatest height. Repentance grows as faith grows. Do not make any mistake about it; repentance is not a thing of days and weeks, a temporary penance to be over as fast as possible! No; it is the grace of a lifetime, like faith itself.

God’s little children repent, and so do the young men and the fathers. Repentance is the inseparable companion of faith. All the while that we walk by faith and not by sight, the tear of repentance glitters in the eye of faith. That is not true repentance which does not come of faith in Jesus, and that is not true faith in Jesus which is not tinctured with repentance. Faith and repentance, like Siamese twins, are vitally joined together.

In proportion as we believe in the forgiving love of Christ, in that proportion we repent; and in proportion as we repent of sin and hate evil, we rejoice in the fullness of the absolution which Jesus is exalted to bestow. You will never value pardon unless you feel repentance ; and you will never taste the deepest draught of repentance until you know that you are pardoned. It may seem a strange thing, but so it is-the bitterness of repentance and the sweetness of pardon blend in the flavor of every gracious life, and make up an incomparable happiness.

These two covenant gifts are the mutual assurance of each other. If I know that I repent, I know that I am forgiven. How am I to know that I am forgiven except I know also that I am turned from my former sinful course? To be a believer is to be a penitent. Faith and repentance are but two spokes in the same wheel, two handles of the same plough.

Repentance has been well described as a heart broken for sin, and from sin; and it may equally well be spoken of as turning and returning. It is a change of mind of the most thorough and radical sort, and it is attended with sorrow for the past, and a resolve of amendment in the future.

Repentance is to leave
The sins we loved before;
And show that we in earnest grieve,
By doing so no more.

Now, when that is the case, we may be certain that we are forgiven; for the Lord never made a heart to be broken for sin and broken from sin, without pardoning it. If, on the other hand, we are enjoying pardon, through the blood of Jesus, and are justified by faith, and have peace with God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, we know that our repentance and faith are of the right sort.

Do not regard your repentance as the cause of your remission, but as the companion of it. Do not expect to be able to repent until you see the grace of our Lord Jesus, and His readiness to blot out your sin. Keep these blessed things in their places, and view them in their relation to each other. They are the Jachin and Boaz of a saving experience; I mean that they are comparable to Solomon’s two great pillars which stood in the forefront of the house of the Lord, and formed a majestic entrance to the holy place.

No man comes to God aright except he passes between the pillars of repentance and remission. Upon your heart the rainbow of covenant grace has been displayed in all its beauty when the tear–drops of repentance have been shone upon by the light of full forgiveness. Repentance of sin and faith in divine pardon are the warp and woof of the fabric of real conversion. By these tokens shall you know an Israelite indeed.

To come back to the Scripture upon which we are meditating: both forgiveness and repentance flow from the same source, and are given by the same Saviour. The Lord Jesus in His glory bestows both upon the same persons. You are neither to find the remission nor the repentance elsewhere. Jesus has both ready, and He is prepared to bestow them now, and to bestow them most freely on all who will accept them at His hands.

Let it never be forgotten that Jesus gives all that is needful for our salvation. It is highly important that all seekers after mercy should remember this. Faith is as much the gift of God as is the Saviour upon whom that faith relies. Repentance of sin is as truly the work of grace as the making of an atonement by which sin is blotted out. Salvation, from first to last, is of grace alone. You will not misunderstand me.

It is not the Holy Spirit who repents. He has never done anything for which He should repent. If He could repent, it would not meet the case; we must ourselves repent of our own sin, or we are not saved from its power. It is not the Lord Jesus Christ who repents. What should He repent of? We ourselves repent with the full consent of every faculty of our mind.

The will, the affections, the emotions, all work together most heartily in the blessed act of repentance for sin; and yet at the back of all that is our personal act, there is a secret holy influence which melts the heart, gives contrition, and produces a complete change. The Spirit of God enlightens us to see what sin is, and thus makes it loathsome in our eyes.

The Spirit of God also turns us toward holiness, makes us heartily to appreciate, love, and desire it, and thus gives us the impetus by which we are led onward from stage to stage of sanctification. The Spirit of God works in us to will and to do according to God’s good pleasure. To that good Spirit let us submit ourselves at once, that He may lead us to Jesus, who will freely give us the double benediction of repentance and remission, according to the riches of His grace.
“By grace are ye saved.”

Jehovah Tsidkenu – The Lord Our Righteousness. We don’t have any righteousness of our own as believers. Our righteousness comes through faith by believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection. It’s not about what we do or don’t do. It’s about what Jesus already did for us. And we can have a sure confidence in the work of Jesus.

The righteousness of God never fails to protect us from enemies and the tricks of the devil because it is pure and holy.

But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back._ 39. But we do not belong to those who shrink 3

Our righteousness on the other hand is as filthy rugs and exposes us to enemies. Let’s learn to lean on God and trust his righteousness. We can then be able to walk confidently, safe in the knowledge that Jesus is our righteousness and because he has us, we won’t be able to shrink back, backslide or lose our way. We can be sure of heaven and prosperity when we have Jesus as our righteousness.

In the current age in which we live, people often expect quick fixes and quick answers. Most people are impatient. And thanks to technological advancement, life has become faster and we can now get things more quickly thanks to microwaves, heaters, driers, dryers, dishwashers etc.

House chores are not as burdensome as they used to be. Transportation is faster with airplanes, fast trains and cars.  If you need quick love and sex, there are numerous websites and services that offer that. We love speed and we have access to it.

And yet not everything in life is easy to come by.

For example:

  • •Some couples take years before getting children.
  • •Some investments take years to grow before yielding.
  • •A quality education takes decades.
  • •Building a great career can take years.
  • •Getting your first house or car may take months or years etc.
  • •Some diseases and sicknesses take months or even years before cure.

There are promises that God has made to us as believers. And some of us have waited for years with no signs of answers. The Bible verse above is encouraging us to hold on and never give up.

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God 3
  • Keep fasting.
  • Keep praying.
  • Keep doing good.
  • Keep obeying God.
  • Keep running the race of faith.
  • Keep giving your tithe and offering.
  • Keep giving to those who are less privileged than you are.
  • Keep serving those around you who need your assistance.

Despite the persecution and trials please don’t let go of your faith. Your services and sacrifices are not in vain.

The promises of God are yes and amen. In due time he will reward you. At the right moment he will open the doors that need to be opened. Just keep holding on and never give up. Jesus never fails.

Reflections And Lessons:

For we know him who said, _It is mine to avenge; I will repay,_ and again, _The Lord will judge his people._ Hebrews 10_ 30. Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 3

When people hurt us or take advantage of us, it is an easy trap to feel the urge to pay them back for their sins.

For example:

1. A spouse cheats and the other spouse cheats back to show the first spouse just how painful their betrayal felt.

2. You are harassed by a bully and your first instinct is to harass the bully back to show them that they have no power over you.

3. You loan someone money and they fail to pay back. To show them how painful their actions were you decide to take some of their own property as compensation.

For we know him who said, _It is mine to avenge; I will repay,_ and again, _The Lord will judge his people._ Hebrews 10_ 30. Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 1

The examples for instances where we are tempted to take revenge abound. It’s a weakness of our fleshy bodies. Its very tempting to want to show our oppressors that we have power and might and it’s sadly an easy trap to fall into too. And yet the Bible Verse above is reminding us to put our ego aside and leave it to God.  Scripture is encouraging us to trust God and his methods for payback over our own.

And the truth is we can trust God to restore everything taken from us by the enemy.

Whether those things are intangible goods like love, health, joy, laughter, freedom or tangible things like money, property and possessions.

We can trust Jesus because his methods for restoration are much better than ours and his ways are higher than ours. Are you going through the pain of betrayal, hurt, loss and grief?

Do you feel like taking matters into your own hands and avenging? Please don’t. Instead cast all your cares unto Jesus and he will deal with the situation.

Sometimes trials and persecutions make me ask questions about my faith.

Please Lord, in whatever situation that I find myself in, help me fix my eyes on you and your promises.

Help me stay steadfast. Help me trust you.

Help me not to take you for granted. Help me stay righteous and faithful to the very end.

Amen.

Reflections And Lessons:

The gospel of punishment for sin, judgement and hell is not a popular one. It is a gospel many people don’t want to hear because it makes them uncomfortable. Unfortunately it is also a gospel that many people have grown indifferent to. Yet despite our reservations towards speaking about sin, judgement, punishment and hell, it is the gospel of truth.

It is a message even Jesus preached and taught.

Many times we take God for granted. Because of his great mercies, patience and kindness we forget that we serve a holy God who hates sin.

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27. but only a fearful expectation of judgment 3

The price Jesus paid for our sins is too great for us to keep on sinning. It is an insult to his sacrifice paid on the cross.

As we go about our daily lives and as we run the journey of  faith, let us not fall into the trap that sin sets. A trap of fleeting pleasures. Let us continually remember that we serve a Holy God and let us worship and honor him by living sinless and righteousness lives. It is possible.

Reflections And Lessons:

Let’s admit it. Sometimes life gets really busy. If you have a job and a family with children for example, the work and bills can pile up.

Recent statistics show that fewer and fewer people are going to church.

Cathedrals and traditional churches are becoming empty. Some say it is because many people are losing their faith. But another explanation could be that people are just busier. Despite the reasons given, it’s important to stay in fellowship.

Fellowship with other believers helps to build our faith, offers encouragement, motivation and inspiration to keep running the race of faith. With increased persecution of believers, having a fellowship and prayer group helps believers to stay strong.

Fellowships can also be a great avenue to help others who might be struggling and in need of our services. Simply put, fellowships are great places for service and discipleship.

With the increase in technological advancements and the internet, we can’t really have an excuse for not staying in fellowship with our brethren during this modern age.

So as a believer in Jesus who wants to build their faith, serve others and stay connected how can you keep in fellowship despite a tight schedule?

Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching. Hebrews 10_ 25 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 3

Here are a few ideas:

1. There are various online churches these days. You have an opportunity to attend church without leaving your house.

2. You can listen to sermons and teachings on radio stations, podcasts and youtube where videos are continually being produced and uploaded.

3. You can buy a video or audio tape and listen to it while driving, at home, at the park or anywhere you get an opportunity and chance.

4. With the advent of PayPal and Visa, you can give your tithe and offering online and serve those who are less fortunate than you.

5. There are thousands of books, devotionals and other resources online that you can get to enrich your spiritual life.

6. With the advent of social media you can join prayer groups, activity groups and various spiritual and faith based clubs where you can share your faith with other believers all over the world.

Despite the various changes in our world and landscape, Apostle Paul’s encouragement is still valid even in this modern age.

Please let’s not give up the habit of fellowship, meeting together, encouraging each other and sharing our faith.

Reflections And Lessons:

It’s often easy to love those who love us. It’s easy to reciprocate requited love. But what about loving those who are difficult to love?

How can we spur each other to love people who are just difficult to love?

Those who are prickly and tend to spun our love when we give it to them?

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10_ 24 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 3

Below are a few ways we can consider:

1. We can pray for them and whatever needs they have.

2. We can ask the Holy spirit to soften their hearts and make them receptive to love.

3. We can forgive them when they hurt us instead of choosing to hold a grudge.

4. We can fast for them.

5. We can keep the doors of our hearts open to them instead of shutting them out.

6. We can patiently wait for them to change and become better.

7. We can tithe on their behalf as we stand in the gap for them.

8. We can keep offering our help and love in places they lack.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10_ 24 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 1

Why You Should Give Up On Your Marriage _ The Strange Thing That Happened The Day I Decided To Give Up On My Marriage Blog Post Banner Image

Why You Should Give Up On Your Marriage | The Strange Thing That Happened The Day I Decided To Give Up On My Marriage.

Today, I asked a little girl, “What is love?”She responded, “Love is not giving up on someone even when you want to.” Her wisdom, stunned me. See, first, I didn’t expect such an insightful response from a child and secondly, today, I was thinking of leaving my wife and giving up on my marriage.

After years of feeling unloved, disrespected and unappreciated, today, I just felt like hanging up my gloves. The unrequited love and one sided affection had finally gotten to me.
I was exhausted from giving my all and getting nothing back.My marriage felt like an empty shell. Most days I couldn’t recognize the woman beside me. She rarely ever spoke to me. Preferring the company of her friends over me. And when I tried speaking to her, most times it felt like she was deaf.

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise Matthew 21_16 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise Matthew 21_16 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image

After years of endless fights, arguments and a situation that felt like it would never improve, I was ready to hang up my boots and throw in the towel. I just felt weary, exhausted and burdened.

But on my way home today, rehearsing the speech I was going to give my wife, and making plans about what to do next etc, I chose to stop by the park to meditate and just spend time with my thoughts. At the park, with the sun out, after days of endless rain, I met a beautiful little girl playing.
I decided to chat her up since I had the time. And at the end of our short tit a tat, is when I asked her the big question, “What is love?”
Her response, “Love is not giving up on someone even when you want to,” sounded like a message from Jesus to me.

Indeed this scripture is true:
And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise?” Matthew 21:16

I thought long and hard about her answer. As I was thinking, something strange started happening. My previously hardened heart, due to the pain I had gone through over the years started to soften.
I started remembering that I had promised to be with my wife for eternity. We were going to heaven together. We were going to do life together. And yet somewhere in the middle of the journey I wanted out?

For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11_30 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image

Thinking further about my dilemma, I realized this was a challenge too big for me to handle. I couldn’t change my wife. Lord knows I had tried for years. But then I also remembered that there was someone bigger and greater than me. Jesus Christ! I remembered that Jesus changes people. Jesus is the greatest behavioral therapist of all time. So, instead of trying to change my wife, me or my marriage, I figured I might just as well try giving the challenge to Jesus.

Yes, I was giving up on my marriage. But I was giving up my marriage to Jesus. Yes, I was finally throwing in the towel. I was finally allowing him to take charge, allowing him to lead the way. Allowing him to teach me and my wife what marriage was all about.

Take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves Matthew 11_29 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image

And so, while I sat in the park, still wowed by the insightfulness of this little angel, I decided to say a prayer. I decided to surrender and give up my marriage to Jesus and that is when another strange thing happened.
After my rather short prayer, I didn’t feel like leaving my wife anymore. Suddenly hope started bubbling in my heart that was once full of despair. Jesus was going to take care of my marriage, me and wife.

As I kept contemplating on these strange occurrences, thoughts and feelings, the deep, gnawing wounds in my heart started healing. The exhaustion and weariness I had felt for years started lifting. Suddenly these words came alive.

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Is It True That The Bible Is The Word Of God – Spiritual Reading

Is It True That The Bible Is The Word Of God – Spiritual Reading.

The thing that the Bible teaches concerning the extent of the inspiration of its writings is that because of this inspiration of Prophets and Apostles, the writers of the Bible, the whole Bible as originally given becomes the absolutely inerrant Word of God.

In the O. T. David says of his own writings, in 2 Sam. 23:2, a passage already referred to, “The Spirit of Jehovah spake by me, and His Word was upon my tongue.” In Mark 7:13 Our Lord Jesus Himself calls the law of Moses “the Word of God.” He says “making void the Word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered.”

In the verses immediately preceding, He has been drawing a contrast between the teachings of the Mosaic law (not merely the teachings of the Ten Commandments, but other parts of the Mosaic law as well) and the traditions of the Scribes and Pharisees, and has shown how the traditions of the Scribes and Pharisees flatly contradicted the requirements of the law as given through Moses, and in summing up the matter he says in the verse just quoted, that the Scribes and Pharisees made void “the Word of God” by their traditions, thus calling the law of Moses “the Word of God.”

When I was in England a high dignitary and scholar in the Church of England in a private correspondence tried to call me down by saying that the Bible nowhere claimed to be “the Word of God,” but I replied to him by showing [him that not only did the Bible claim it, but that the Lord Jesus Himself said in so many words that the law given through Moses was “the Word of God.”

In 1 Thess. 2:13 the Apostle Paul claims that his own epistles and teachings are “the Word of God.” He says: “And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that when ye received from us the word of the message, even the word of God, ye accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.”

Here the Apostle Paul claims for his own teaching in the most absolute way that the message that he gave was “the Word of God.” When we read the words that Jeremiah wrote and Isaiah wrote and Paul wrote and John wrote and James wrote and Jude wrote and the other Bible writers wrote, we are reading what God says.

We are not listening to the voice of man, but we are listening to the voice of God. “The Word of God” which we have in the Old and New Testaments, as originally given, is absolutely inerrant down to the smallest word and smallest letter or part of a letter. Our Lord Jesus Himself says of the Pentateuch in Matt. 5:18: “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law till all things be accomplished.”

Now a “jot” is the Hebrew character “yodh,” the smallest character in the Hebrew alphabet, less than half the size of any other letter in the Hebrew alphabet, and a “tittle” is a part of a letter, the little horn put on some of the Hebrew consonants, less than the cross we put on a “t,” and here our Lord says that the law given through Moses was absolutely inerrant, down to its smallest letter or part of a letter.

That certainly is verbal inspiration with a vengeance. Again he said, as recorded in John 10:35, after having quoted from the 82nd Psalm and the 6th verse, as conclusive proof of a point, “The Scripture CANNOT BE BROKEN,” thus asserting the absolute irrefragability or inerrancy and finality of the Scriptures. If the Scriptures as originally given were not the inerrant Word of God, then not only is the Bible a fraud, but Jesus Christ Himself was utterly misled and is therefore utterly unreliable as a teacher.

I have said that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as originally given were absolutely inerrant, and the question of course arises to what extent is the Authorized Version, or the Revised Version, the inerrant Word of God. The answer is simple; they are the inerrant Word of God just to that extent that they are an accurate rendering of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as originally given, and to all practical intents and purposes they are a thoroughly accurate rendering of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as originally given.

There are, it is true, many variations in the many manuscripts we possess, thousands of variations, but by a careful study of these very variations, we are able to find with marvellous accuracy what the original manuscripts said. A very large share of the variations are of no value whatever, as it is evident from a comparison of different manuscripts that they are mistakes of a transcriber.

Many other variations simply concern the order of the words used, and in translating into English, in which the order of words is often different from what it is in the Greek, the variation is not translatable. Many other variations are of small Greek particles, many of which are not translatable into English any way.

When all the variations of any significance have been reduced to the minimum to which it is possible to reduce them by a careful study of manuscripts, there is not one single variation left that affects any doctrine held by the evangelical churches, and the Scriptures as we have them to-day translated into our English language, either in the A. V. or R. V., are to all practical intents and purposes the inerrant Word of God.

And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.

Exodus 12:11

And it shall be, when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ 27 that you shall say, It is the Passover sacrifice of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.’ ” So the people bowed their heads and worshiped. 28 Then the children of Israel went away and did so; just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

Exodus 12:26-28

And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it. 44 But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45 A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it. 46 In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones. 47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. 48 And when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. 49 One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you.”
50 Thus all the children of Israel did; as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. 51 And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.

Exodus 12:43-51

“You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until morning.

Exodus 34:25

Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. 22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.

Exodus 12:21-22

These are the feasts of the Lord, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times. 5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the Lord’s Passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. 7 On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it. 8 But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.’ ”

Leviticus 23:4-8

“Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. 3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time. According to all its rites and ceremonies you shall keep it.” 4 So Moses told the children of Israel that they should keep the Passover. 5 And they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month, at twilight, in the Wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did.
6 Now there were certain men who were defiled by a human corpse, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day; and they came before Moses and Aaron that day. 7 And those men said to him, “We became defiled by a human corpse. Why are we kept from presenting the offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the children of Israel?”
8 And Moses said to them, “Stand still, that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.”
9 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If anyone of you or your posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover. 11 On the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they may keep it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break one of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it. 13 But the man who is clean and is not on a journey, and ceases to keep the Passover, that same person shall be cut off from among his people, because he did not bring the offering of the Lord at its appointed time; that man shall bear his sin.
14 ‘And if a stranger dwells among you, and would keep the Lord’s Passover, he must do so according to the rite of the Passover and according to its ceremony; you shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger and the native of the land.’ ”Numbers 9:2-3 (NKJV) 2 “Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. 3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time. According to all its rites and ceremonies you shall keep it.”

Numbers 9:2-14

On the fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover of the Lord. 17 And on the fifteenth day of this month is the feast; unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days. 18 On the first day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. 19 And you shall present an offering made by fire as a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year. Be sure they are without blemish. 20 Their grain offering shall be of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah you shall offer for a bull, and two-tenths for a ram; 21 you shall offer one-tenth of an ephah for each of the seven lambs; 22 also one goat as a sin offering, to make atonement for you. 23 You shall offer these besides the burnt offering of the morning, which is for a regular burnt offering. 24 In this manner you shall offer the food of the offering made by fire daily for seven days, as a sweet aroma to the Lord; it shall be offered besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. 25 And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work.

Numbers 28:16-25

They departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the Passover the children of Israel went out with boldness in the sight of all the Egyptians.

Christ Is Head Of The Church – Church Family Bible Verses.

Romans 12:3-5

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.

1 Corinthians 10:17

For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

Ephesians 3:4-7

By which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power.

Colossians 1:17-18

And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many.

Ephesians 4:12-16

For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Colossians 2:19-20

And not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. 20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations.

1 Corinthians 12:18-20

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

Ephesians 4:3-6

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Colossians 3:15-17

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

1 Corinthians 12:23-24

And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it,

Ephesians 5:23-24

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Hebrews 13:3

Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.

1 Corinthians 12:27

Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Ephesians 5:30-32

For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

2 Corinthians 5:9-10

Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Will Time End – And If Time Ends, When Will It End – Faith Versus Science

Will Time End - And If Time Ends, When Will It End - Faith Versus Science Blog Post Banner Image

Will Time End – And If Time Ends, When Will It End – Faith Versus Science.

Will time end?

Yes time will end.

But I need to define what time I’m writing about. I’m speaking of Man’s time. Human time, Physical time. Man’s time will end.

However, God doesn’t operate at the same level as man. While most of the time, Man lives in the Physical, God is Spirit. God dwells in eternity. Therefore God’s time will not end but Man’s time on this current earth will end.

Science predicts that time will end in five billion years according to the Multiverse theory and the Eternal Inflation theory.

Multiverse theory in basic terms postulates the existence of multiple universes or as has been seen in movies, it’s the idea of parallel universes.

Eternal inflation on the other hand postulates that our universe will expand forever and it is a further extension of the Big Bang theory.

Faith according to the Bible says there is a last day. Prophet Micah said this about the last days:

“In the last days
the mountain of the Lord’s house
will be established
at the top of the mountains
and will be raised above the hills.
Peoples will stream to it
Micah 4: 1

This generation is living in the last days and the end of our time and this earth is soon. In Matthew Jesus said this about the happenings in the last days which we are witnessing now.

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:4-14

Science says our universe has existed for nearly 14 billion years.

Faith according to the Bible says, Man has lived on the Earth for about 6000 years. Answers in Genesis illustrates this in a brilliant mathematical explanation in this article, “How Old Is the Earth?”

Will time come to an abrupt end?

Time will not come to an abrupt end. The Bible doesn’t say so. The Bible tells us there will be signs and warning which we shall see and witness before the end.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in heaven above
And signs in the earth beneath:
Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
And the moon into blood,
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
Acts 2:17-21

The series on Harbingers of the End times tries to elaborate on some of these signs which are happening though they might not be visible to the carnal mind. Only by the leading of the Holy Spirit, careful study of God’s word and keeping abreast with the news can one be able to make the correlations.

Is the end of Time inevitable?

Science says the end of time is not inevitable.

Faith according to the Bible says, the earth and heavens will pass away therefore the end of time is inevitable.

“In the same way, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near. 32 I assure you: This generation will certainly not pass away until all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”
Luke 21:31-33

So, unfortunately for scientists and physicists. The end of the world is inevitable. And it will not happen in 5 billion years like Professor Ken D Olum of Tuft University says in this statement, “There’s no need to go off and sell your stocks because the universe is going to end in five billion years,”

Jesus knew the world would end, that is why he encouraged his followers to store there goods where moth would not destroy it.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Matthew 6:19-20

The Apostle Peter gently reminds us that:

Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer. 8 Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:7-8

I pray we can make Peter’s words a constant prayer.

How To Become A Better Husband – Blog Of The Day

With the high divorce and separation rates in our world  and many wives lamenting about how unloved and uncared for they feel, it seems like many husbands today need some education on how to be better husbands and how to love their wives.

Most literature out there is about how women can treat their husbands better. A cursory look at many pinterest boards and most are filled with advice on how women can be better wives but very little on how men can be better husbands.

Paul, the apostle encouraged husbands to love their wives, the same way that Jesus loved the church.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word.”

Ephesians 5:25-26

There has been a lot of debate in regards to this, as earlier in the chapter, Paul also encourages wives to submit to  their husbands.

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”

Ephesians 5:22-24

Unfortunately, some ungodly and unrighteous men have taken this verse and misused it to mistreat their wives.

In his blog series titled,  Becoming A Husband of No Reputation, Travis who blogs at Jesuslovesyou32 brilliantly explores the topic of being a great and godly husband. He masterfully delves into the topic and shares a lot of great insights.

If you are a married man who wants to become a better husband to your wife, and to improve your marriage, this is a must read series.
