Is The Bible And All Scripture Inspired By God – Spiritual Reading.

The seventh thing that the Bible makes plain regarding the work of the Holy Spirit in the various writers of Scripture, is that all Scripture, that is everything contained in all the books of the Old and New Testament, is inspired of God. We are distinctly taught this in 2 Tim. 3:16, 17.

Here we read, “All Scripture (more exactly, every Scripture) is given by inspiration of God (more literally, God-breathed), and is profitable for doctrine, (or teaching), for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (rather, instruction which is in righteousness), that the man of God may be perfect (rather, complete) thoroughly furnished(better, furnished completely) unto all good works (rather, every good work).”

An attempt has been made to obscure the full force of these words by a revised translation given in both the English Revision and American Standard Version. In this revised translation, the words are rendered as follows: “Every Scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.”

There is absolutely no warrant in the Greek text for changing “Every Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, etc.,” into “Every Scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, etc.” “Every” is in the Greek. There is no “is” in the Greek. It must be supplied, as is often the case in translating from Greek into English.

“Is” must be supplied somewhere, either before “given by inspiration” (or God-breathed), or else supplied after it, in the latter case necessitating the change of “and” into “also” (a change which is possible, but very uncommon); and there is not a single instance in the New Testament outside of this in which two adjectives coupled by the simplest copulative “and (kai)” are ripped apart and the “is” placed between them and an “and” changed into “also.”

The other construction, that of the Authorised Version, is not at all uncommon. The translation of the Revisers does violence to all customary usage of the Greek language. But we do not need to dwell upon that, for, even accepting the changes given in the Revision, the thought is not essentially changed; for if Paul had said what the revisers make him say that “Every Scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, etc.,” there can be no question but by “every scripture inspired of God” he referred to every Scripture contained in the Old Testament.

Here, then, taking whichever translation you will, we have the plain teaching that every Scripture of the Old Testament is “God-breathed” or “inspired of God.” Certainly if we can believe this about the Old Testament there is no difficulty in believing it about the New, and there can be no question that Paul claimed for his own teaching an equal authority with the O. T. teaching.

This we shall see clearly under the next head. And not only did Paul so claim, but the Apostle Peter also classes the teaching of Paul with the O. T. teaching as being “Scripture.” Peter says in 2 Pet. 3:15, 16, “Even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given unto him, wrote unto you; (16) as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsteadfast wrest, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction.” Here Peter clearly speaks of Paul’s epistles as being “Scripture.”

Who Gives Prophets And Apostles The Words To Speak – Spiritual Reading.

The 6thing that the Bible makes clear as to the inspiration of the apostle and prophets is that, the Holy Spirit in the Prophets and Apostles gave not only the thought but also gave the words in which the thought was to be expressed. We find this very clearly stated in 1 Cor. 2:13: “Which things also we speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Spirit teacheth; combining spiritual things with spiritual words.”

One of the most popular of the false theories of Inspiration in our day is that the Holy Spirit was the author of the thought, but that the Apostles were left to their own choice of words in the expression of the thought, and that therefore in studying the Bible we cannot emphasise the exact meaning of the words, but must try to find the thought of God that was back of the words, and which the writer has more or less inaccurately expressed.

There are many teachers in our theological seminaries to-day, and in our pulpits, who speak very sneeringly and superciliously of those who believe in Verbal Inspiration,—i.e., those who believe that the Holy Spirit chose the very words in which the thought he was teaching was to be expressed, but however sneeringly they may speak of those who believe in Verbal Inspiration, certainly the Bible claims that it was verbally inspired.

The passage which I have just read makes it as plain as language can possibly make it that the “words” in which the Apostle spoke were not “words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth.” Now if this is not the fact, if only the thought that was given to Paul was the thought of God, and he clothed the thought in his own words, then Paul was a thoroughly deceived man on a fundamental point, in which case no dependence at all can be placed in his teachings on any point, or else he was a deliberate fraud, in which case the quicker we burn up his books the better for us and all concerned.

There is no possibility of finding any middle ground, and the attempts to find a middle ground have landed those who have tried it in all kinds of absurdities. If you have an exact and logical mind, you must take your choice between Verbal Inspiration and bald infidelity. Paul distinctly states that the words in which he conveyed to others the truth that was revealed to him were the words which the Holy Spirit taught him.

The Holy Spirit himself has anticipated all these modern ingenious, but wholly unbiblical and utterly illogical and entirely false theories regarding his own work in the Apostles. The theory that “the concept” was inspired but the words in which the concept was expressed were not, was anticipated by the Holy Spirit Himself and exploded 1800 years before our supposedly wise 19th century theological teachers conceived it, and attempted to foist it upon an unsuspecting public.

It was exploded eighteen centuries before it was exploited. Furthermore, the theory is absurd in itself. As the only way in which thought can be conveyed from one mind to another, from one man’s mind to another man’s mind, or from the mind of God to the mind of man is by words, therefore if the words are imperfect the thought expressed in those words is necessarily imperfect.

The theory is an absurdity on its very face, and it is difficult to see how intelligent men could have ever deceived themselves into believing such a thoroughly illogical theory. If the words are not inspired the Bible is not inspired. Let us not deceive ourselves; let us face facts.

Furthermore, the more carefully and minutely one studies the wording of the statements of this wonderful book—the Bible—the more he will become convinced of the marvelous accuracy of the very words used to express the thought. To a superficial thinker the doctrine of Verbal Inspiration may appear questionable or even absurd, but any regenerate and Spirit-taught man who ponders the words of the Scripture day by day, and year after year, will become thoroughly and immovably convinced that the wisdom of God is in the very words used as well as in the thought which is expressed in the words.

It is a significant and deeply impressive fact that our difficulties with the Bible rapidly disappear as we note the precise language used. The changing of a word or letter, or of a tense, case or number, would oftentimes land us in contradiction or untruth, but taking the words exactly as written, difficulties disappear and truth shines forth.

Countless times people have come to me with apparent difficulties and supposed contradictions in the Bible and asked a solution, and I have pointed them to the exact words used and the solution was found in taking the words exactly as written. It was because they changed in a slight degree the very words that God spoke that a difficulty had seemed to arise.

The Divine origin of nature shines forth more and more clearly the more closely we examine it under the microscope. As by the use of a powerful microscope we see the perfection of form and the adaptation of means to end in the minutest particles of matter, we are overwhelmingly convinced that God, a God of infinite wisdom and power, a wisdom extending down to the minutest parts of matter, is the author of the material universe: so likewise the divine origin of the Bible shines forth more and more clearly under the microscope.

The more minutely we study the Bible the more we note the perfection with which the turn of a word reveals the absolute thought of God. It was because they changed in a slight degree the very words that God spoke that a difficulty had seemed to arise. An important question, and a question that has puzzled many writers at this point, is: If the Holy Spirit is the author of the very words of Scripture how do we account for the variations in style and diction? How is it, for example, that Paul always used Pauline language, and John used Johannean language, and Peter used language that was characteristic of himself?

The answer to this question is very simple and is two-fold: First, even though we could not account at all for this fact, it would have little weight against the explicit statement of God’s Word with any one who is humble enough and wise enough to recognise that there are a great many things which he cannot account for at all which could be easily accounted for if he knew a little more.

It is only the man who has such amazing and stupendous conceit that he thinks he knows as much as God, in other words, that he is infinite in wisdom, who will give up an explicit statement of God’s Word simply because he sees a difficulty in the way of the acceptance of that statement, which he in his limited knowledge cannot solve. But there is a second answer, and an all-sufficient one, and that is this: these variations in style and diction are easily accounted for.

The Holy Spirit is infinitely wise. He Himself is the Creator of Man, and of man’s power of speech, and therefore he is quite wise enough and has quite enough facility in the use of language in revealing truth to and through any individual to use words, phrases and forms of expression that are in that person’s ordinary vocabulary and forms of thought, and He is also quite wise enough to make use of that person’s peculiar individuality in revealing the truth through him. It is one of the marks of the Divine wisdom of this book that the same Divine truth is expressed with absolute accuracy in such widely variant forms of expression.

The God Of The Bible As Distinguished From The God Of Christian Science And The God Of Modern Philosophy – Spiritual Reading

The God Of The Bible As Distinguished From The God Of Christian Science And The God Of Modern Philosophy – Spiritual Reading.

I have three texts: John 4:24: “God is Spirit.” 1 John 1:5: “God is Light.” 1 John 4:8, 16: “God is Love.” These three texts give three of the most remarkable statements that were ever uttered and set before us in the clearest possible way the Christian conception of God as distinguished from every other conception of God.

The Christian Scientists constantly quote one of our texts: “God is Love.” In fact they quote it more than almost any other passage in the Bible, but they do not mean at all by “God is Love” what 1 John 4:8 or 1 John 4:16 evidently mean when taken in their connection. By “love” the Christian Scientists do not mean a personal attribute of God, but an impersonal abstraction which is itself God.

Mrs. Eddy frankly and flatly denies the personality of God. The Christian Scientists not only say, “God is love,” but they also say, “Love is God.” They not only say, “God is good,” but they also say, “Good is God.” To say “Love is God” is an utterly different statement from saying, “God is love.” You might just as well say “Spirit is God,” because God says, “God is spirit,” but all spirit is not God. Or you might as well say, “Light is God,” because “God is light,” but light is not God and love is not God, though God is love and God is light and God is spirit.

What is meant by “love” in the inspired statement, “God is Love”? What is meant by the statement, “God is Love,” is shown by the definition or description of love given in the context and in the immediately preceding chapter—1 John 3:13-18. These verses clearly show that by the statement in 1 John 4:8 and 1 John 4:16, “God is Love” is not meant that God is an abstract quality, “love,” and that the abstract quality of love is God, but what is meant is that God is a person whose whole being and conduct are dominated by the quality of love, that is, by a desire for and delight in the highest welfare of others.

This will be evident to you if I read from the immediately preceding chapter (1 John 3:13-17): “Marvel not, brethren, if the world hateth you. (14) We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death. (15) Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. (16) Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. (17) But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him? (18) My little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.”

And from this chapter (1 John 4:7-17): “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is begotten of God, and knoweth God. (8) He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (9) Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. (10) Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. (11) Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (12) No man hath beheld God at any time: If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: (13) Hereby we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he hath given us of his spirit. (14) And we have beheld and bear witness that the father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. (15) Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. (16) And we know [and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is Love; and he that hath abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him. (17) Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world.”

The God of what is called “Modern Philosophy” is “The Absolute,” and by “The Absolute” is generally meant a cold abstraction and not a clear, definite and warm personality Who loves, grieves, suffers, and Who works intelligently for others. And oftentimes the God of modern philosophy is not only “in all things” but is all things and all things are God. Such a God is no God at all.

Whereas the God of the Bible, as we shall see as we proceed, is a Divine Person who exists apart from the world which He has created and Who existed before the world He created, Who bears definite relations to the world He has made and Who works along definite and clearly revealed lines.

So we come face to face with the question, What sort of a Being is the God of the Bible, the real God, the one true God, the God of Christianity, the only God Whom we should worship and love and obey? The Kaiser also talks much about God and his followers are fond of saying, “Gott mit uns,” but if any one will carefully study the Kaiser’s utterances it becomes plain that he does not mean by God the God of the Bible, the Christian God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflections And Lessons:

But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back._ 39. But we do not belong to those who shrink 2

Jehovah Tsidkenu – The Lord Our Righteousness. We don’t have any righteousness of our own as believers. Our righteousness comes through faith by believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection. It’s not about what we do or don’t do. It’s about what Jesus already did for us. And we can have a sure confidence in the work of Jesus.

The righteousness of God never fails to protect us from enemies and the tricks of the devil because it is pure and holy.

But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back._ 39. But we do not belong to those who shrink 3

Our righteousness on the other hand is as filthy rugs and exposes us to enemies. Let’s learn to lean on God and trust his righteousness. We can then be able to walk confidently, safe in the knowledge that Jesus is our righteousness and because he has us, we won’t be able to shrink back, backslide or lose our way. We can be sure of heaven and prosperity when we have Jesus as our righteousness.

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36. You need to persevere so that when 2

In the current age in which we live, people often expect quick fixes and quick answers. Most people are impatient. And thanks to technological advancement, life has become faster and we can now get things more quickly thanks to microwaves, heaters, driers, dryers, dishwashers etc.

House chores are not as burdensome as they used to be. Transportation is faster with airplanes, fast trains and cars.  If you need quick love and sex, there are numerous websites and services that offer that. We love speed and we have access to it.

And yet not everything in life is easy to come by.

For example:

  • •Some couples take years before getting children.
  • •Some investments take years to grow before yielding.
  • •A quality education takes decades.
  • •Building a great career can take years.
  • •Getting your first house or car may take months or years etc.
  • •Some diseases and sicknesses take months or even years before cure.

There are promises that God has made to us as believers. And some of us have waited for years with no signs of answers. The Bible verse above is encouraging us to hold on and never give up.

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. 36. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God 3
  • Keep fasting.
  • Keep praying.
  • Keep doing good.
  • Keep obeying God.
  • Keep running the race of faith.
  • Keep giving your tithe and offering.
  • Keep giving to those who are less privileged than you are.
  • Keep serving those around you who need your assistance.

Despite the persecution and trials please don’t let go of your faith. Your services and sacrifices are not in vain.

The promises of God are yes and amen. In due time he will reward you. At the right moment he will open the doors that need to be opened. Just keep holding on and never give up. Jesus never fails.

Reflections And Lessons:

For we know him who said, _It is mine to avenge; I will repay,_ and again, _The Lord will judge his people._ Hebrews 10_ 30. Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 3

When people hurt us or take advantage of us, it is an easy trap to feel the urge to pay them back for their sins.

For example:

1. A spouse cheats and the other spouse cheats back to show the first spouse just how painful their betrayal felt.

2. You are harassed by a bully and your first instinct is to harass the bully back to show them that they have no power over you.

3. You loan someone money and they fail to pay back. To show them how painful their actions were you decide to take some of their own property as compensation.

For we know him who said, _It is mine to avenge; I will repay,_ and again, _The Lord will judge his people._ Hebrews 10_ 30. Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 1

The examples for instances where we are tempted to take revenge abound. It’s a weakness of our fleshy bodies. Its very tempting to want to show our oppressors that we have power and might and it’s sadly an easy trap to fall into too. And yet the Bible Verse above is reminding us to put our ego aside and leave it to God.  Scripture is encouraging us to trust God and his methods for payback over our own.

And the truth is we can trust God to restore everything taken from us by the enemy.

Whether those things are intangible goods like love, health, joy, laughter, freedom or tangible things like money, property and possessions.

We can trust Jesus because his methods for restoration are much better than ours and his ways are higher than ours. Are you going through the pain of betrayal, hurt, loss and grief?

Do you feel like taking matters into your own hands and avenging? Please don’t. Instead cast all your cares unto Jesus and he will deal with the situation.

Reflections And Lessons:

The gospel of punishment for sin, judgement and hell is not a popular one. It is a gospel many people don’t want to hear because it makes them uncomfortable. Unfortunately it is also a gospel that many people have grown indifferent to. Yet despite our reservations towards speaking about sin, judgement, punishment and hell, it is the gospel of truth.

It is a message even Jesus preached and taught.

Many times we take God for granted. Because of his great mercies, patience and kindness we forget that we serve a holy God who hates sin.

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27. but only a fearful expectation of judgment 3

The price Jesus paid for our sins is too great for us to keep on sinning. It is an insult to his sacrifice paid on the cross.

As we go about our daily lives and as we run the journey of  faith, let us not fall into the trap that sin sets. A trap of fleeting pleasures. Let us continually remember that we serve a Holy God and let us worship and honor him by living sinless and righteousness lives. It is possible.

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27. but only a fearful expectation of judgment 1

Building Faith, Hope, Love – A Simple 7 Day Bible Reading Devotional Based On Hebrews 10 – 23 – 39

Reflections And Lessons:

Let’s admit it. Sometimes life gets really busy. If you have a job and a family with children for example, the work and bills can pile up.

Recent statistics show that fewer and fewer people are going to church.

Cathedrals and traditional churches are becoming empty. Some say it is because many people are losing their faith. But another explanation could be that people are just busier. Despite the reasons given, it’s important to stay in fellowship.

Fellowship with other believers helps to build our faith, offers encouragement, motivation and inspiration to keep running the race of faith. With increased persecution of believers, having a fellowship and prayer group helps believers to stay strong.

Fellowships can also be a great avenue to help others who might be struggling and in need of our services. Simply put, fellowships are great places for service and discipleship.

With the increase in technological advancements and the internet, we can’t really have an excuse for not staying in fellowship with our brethren during this modern age.

So as a believer in Jesus who wants to build their faith, serve others and stay connected how can you keep in fellowship despite a tight schedule?

Here are a few ideas:

1. There are various online churches these days. You have an opportunity to attend church without leaving your house.

2. You can listen to sermons and teachings on radio stations, podcasts and youtube where videos are continually being produced and uploaded.

3. You can buy a video or audio tape and listen to it while driving, at home, at the park or anywhere you get an opportunity and chance.

4. With the advent of PayPal and Visa, you can give your tithe and offering online and serve those who are less fortunate than you.

5. There are thousands of books, devotionals and other resources online that you can get to enrich your spiritual life.

6. With the advent of social media you can join prayer groups, activity groups and various spiritual and faith based clubs where you can share your faith with other believers all over the world.

Despite the various changes in our world and landscape, Apostle Paul’s encouragement is still valid even in this modern age.

Please let’s not give up the habit of fellowship, meeting together, encouraging each other and sharing our faith.

Building Faith, Hope, Love – A Simple 7 Day Bible Reading Devotional Based On Hebrews 10 – 23 – 39

Reflections And Lessons:

It’s often easy to love those who love us. It’s easy to reciprocate requited love. But what about loving those who are difficult to love?

How can we spur each other to love people who are just difficult to love?

Those who are prickly and tend to spun our love when we give it to them?

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10_ 24 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 3

Below are a few ways we can consider:

1. We can pray for them and whatever needs they have.

2. We can ask the Holy spirit to soften their hearts and make them receptive to love.

3. We can forgive them when they hurt us instead of choosing to hold a grudge.

4. We can fast for them.

5. We can keep the doors of our hearts open to them instead of shutting them out.

6. We can patiently wait for them to change and become better.

7. We can tithe on their behalf as we stand in the gap for them.

8. We can keep offering our help and love in places they lack.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10_ 24 Bible Verse Social Media Square Image 1

The Rape Culture| Don’t Cause A Brother To stumble | Feminism And Misogyny.

Some women will tempt and seduce a man. Through their dressing, actions and words. Not because they love him but simply as a way of gaining control so that they can extort and blackmail him. After such women lure men into their bedchambers, when the men are aroused and sin, these very same women will turn around and cry victim. They will wail and cry about rape.

Rape culture is a sociological concept for a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. Wikipedia

Rape has become so normalized with women come online and especially social media shaming and guilting men. As recent statistics shows most of these cases of sexual assault are not true as most true victims keep silent due to pain, fear and shame. I’m not condoning rape. Rape is sin and sex should be consensual.

But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, 27 for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her.

Deuteronomy 22:25-27

Both men and women should not be rapists. But, on the other hand, let’s not lead other people to sin and then later play victim. It’s wicked. And Jesus will punish such.

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— 44 where Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— 46 where Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— 48 where Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’

Mark 9:42-48

Seed Of The Woman | Managing The Serpent Spirit | Feminism And Misogyny.

One of the spirit’s the feminists and misogynists are exhibiting is the serpent/snake spirit. Just like a snake goes belly up, belly down when it’s running away when it senses it’s about to be crushed. The snake will not move in a straight path. They will keep swinging in all directions. That is what is going on with feminists and misogynists. That is why most of their arguments can’t hold.

For example:

  • In one sentence a feminist will talk about respect, in the very next sentence, they will be insulting someone.

  • In one post, they will be saying they care about women’s rights. In the next post, they will be tearing down another woman.

  • In one breath, they will be advocating for women’s rights. In the next, they will be advocating for all rights. And soon after that, they will be advocating for men’s rights only etc.

  • In one tweet, they will be calling men rapists, in the next they will be trying to seduce a man and lead him astray. etc.

Truth is they don’t really care about either men or women. Not at all. Feminism is just a clock to hide their true intentions and motivations. They hide under feminism to practice open day witchcraft sorcery and witchcraft.

They are double minded and don’t know what to believe or not to believe. Nothing they say is true. They do all this in a bid to create envy, jealousy, enmity and hatred between innocent people so that they can plunder and cause destruction. They hate stable family structures and godly unions.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

James 1:6-8

The Bible says, this about the serpent snake and how to manage the spirit and defeat it.

So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Genesis 3:14-15

We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ who saved us. We shall not allow feminism and misogyny to destroy our families, lives, faith, nations and the earth.

The dark cannot overcome the light.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

For A Happy And Successful Marriage That Will Last And Survive The Storms Of Life You Need This – The Vintage Woman.

You can have a fulfilling and happy marriage even in today’s world. You can have a healthy and successful marriage in today’s atmosphere’s filled with divorce and separation. You simply need to base your marriage on the architect of marriage. The person who doesn’t think it is right for man or for woman to be alone. The one who believes that human being’s need support systems, family, relationships and marriage.

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

Genesis 2:18

Without the assistance of Jesus and the help of his Holy Spirit, it is very difficult and hard to have a happy marriage. Jesus who is God created marriage. Jesus, is your assured and full proof prevention against a bad and painful marriage.

God created marriage in the garden of eden when he made the first man, Adam and gave him a wife, Eve (the first woman). From henceforth, God ordained marriage. A marriage without God, is a marriage headed for disaster, divorce, unhappiness and destruction.

Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 2:22-25

Modern teaching says that the marriage is a social construct, that is made by the people and the state. That is a very fallicious view that explains the high divorce rates we are witnessing in our world today.

Divorce is very painful and a difficult process. Divorce is akin to death as there is loss involved. A loss of dreams, hope, love, comfort, peace, stability finances, support, faith etc.

I pray that before we get married, we can ask Jesus to help us choose the right partners. And even after he has helped us to choose the right partners, I pray we build the foundations of our marriages on him because Jesus is the solid foundation and rock that never fails.

Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.

Luke 6:47-48

When the storms of life, hit, as they will inevitably hit, we can count on Jesus and the guidance of his Holy spirit to see us and our marriages through the rough seas and storms.

If you are going through any difficulties in your marriage today, how about, you invite Jesus to come and help you fix the difficulties and solve whatever challenges you are facing? Let’s give our marriages back to God and see him do a new and wondrous thing in our lives.

Below, is added information and useful advice from a book titled, “Ladies Book Of Useful Information.” that you will also find useful.

Advice upon this subject is very much needed. I am assured that it is a subject not often talked of in families—at least, as it ought to be—nor is it much alluded to in the pulpit, and the result is that young people commonly get their notions about it from those only a little older than themselves, and who therefore know but little more than they do, or from those who form their opinions from the abuse they see of it and so hold degrading and unworthy ideas respecting it.

Sometimes all that is known about it amounts to this, that it is a delightful thing to be married. It is quite true that it often is, and always ought to be, delightful; still, you know it is frequently the reverse. You cannot, then, be too cautious in the matter.

Nothing can be more orderly, right, proper, and holy than marriage. It is not, however, quite so simple an affair as you may fancy. Every good thing (and this is one of the best) requires some effort to obtain it, and unless you take the right course you must not expect to succeed.

You may often see a young woman who, from not entertaining correct views on the point, is certainly taking a wrong course, her endeavors being rather to make what she considers a good match than by acquiring kind and orderly habits to qualify herself to become worthy of a worthy husband.

That the best things are liable to the greatest abuses is notorious, and from the lamentable fact that marriage is often abused we may fairly infer its pre-eminent worth. In truth, there is nothing more valuable. It is, then, highly injurious to entertain low notions respecting it, and men who indulge in loose conversation on the subject are likely at the same time to think meanly of women.

Beware of them, and if you hear them expressing such opinions in your presence, withdraw from them at once as unworthy of your company. Never fear but they will respect you the more for the rebuke.

Of course you are looking forward to settling happily, and will do your best for that purpose. On this let me remark that all happiness (that is, all that is genuine, and therefore worthy of the name) comes from connection with the one great source of all good, and He has freely and fully provided all the means necessary for our being happy, both here and hereafter.

He has placed each of us where it is best for us to be, and in the circumstances that are best for us at the time, and this applies to you and to me now. Howsoever much appearances may be to the contrary, He cares as much for each of us as if we were the sole objects of His care.

It is only by doing our duty in humble dependence on His assistance, which He never withholds, that we can be happy. It behooves you, then, to consider well what is your duty, in order that you may do it and may enjoy the blessings He is so ready to bestow. I hope you may have been a loving and dutiful daughter, an affectionate sister, and a faithful friend; then you may have good ground of hope for the future.

Deliverance From Spiritual Captivity, Sin And Bondage – Spiritual Reading.

In this place I would say a plain word or two to those who understand the method of justification by faith which is in Christ Jesus, but whose trouble is that they cannot cease from sin. We can never be happy, restful, or spiritually healthy till we become holy. We must be rid of sin; but how is the riddance to be wrought? This is the life-or-death question of many.

The old nature is very strong, and they have tried to curb and tame it; but it will not be subdued, and they find themselves, though anxious to be better, if anything growing worse than before. The heart is so hard, the will is so obstinate, the passions are so furious, the thoughts are so volatile, the imagination is so ungovernable, the desires are so wild, that the man feels that he has a den of wild beasts within him, which will eat him up sooner than be ruled by him.

We may say of our fallen nature what the Lord said to Job concerning Leviathan: “Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?” A man might as well hope to hold the north wind in the hollow of his hand as expect to control by his own strength those boisterous powers which dwell within his fallen nature. This is a greater feat than any of the fabled labors of Hercules: God is wanted here.

“I could believe that Jesus would forgive sin,” says one, “but then my trouble is that I sin again, and that I feel such awful tendencies to evil within me. As surely as a stone, if it be flung up into the air, soon comes down again to the ground, so do I, though I am sent up to heaven by earnest preaching, return again to my insensible state. Alas ! I am easily fascinated with the basilisk eyes of sin, and am thus held as under a spell, so that I cannot escape from my own folly.”

Dear friend, salvation would be a sadly incomplete affair if it did not deal with this part of our ruined estate. We want to be purified as well as pardoned. Justification without sanctification would not be salvation at all. It would call the leper clean, and leave him to die of his disease; if would forgive the rebellion and allow the rebel to remain an enemy to his king.

It would remove the consequences but overlook the cause, and this would leave an endless and hopeless task before us. It would stop the stream for a time, but leave an open fountain of defilement, which would sooner or later break forth with increased power. Remember that the Lord Jesus came to take away sin in three ways; He came to remove the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and, at last, the presence of sin.

At once you may reach to the second part-the power of sin may immediately be broken; and so you will be on the road to the third, namely, the removal of the presence of sin. “We know that he was manifested to take away our sins.” The angel said of our Lord, “Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” Our Lord Jesus came to destroy in us the works of the devil.

That which was said at our Lord’s birth was also declared in His death; for when the soldier pierced His side forthwith came there out blood and water, to set forth the double cure by which we are delivered from the guilt and the defilement of sin. If, however, you are troubled about the power of sin, and about the tendencies of your nature, as you well may be, here is a promise for you.

Have faith in it, for it stands in that covenant of grace which is ordered in all things and sure. God, who cannot lie, has said in Ezekiel 36:26:
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
You see, it is all “I will,” and “I will.” “I will give,” and “I will take away.” This is the royal style of the King of kings, who is able to accomplish all His will. No word of His shall ever fall to the ground.

The Lord knows right well that you cannot change your own heart, and cannot cleanse your own nature; but He also knows that He can do both. He can cause the Ethiopian to change his skin, and the leopard his spots. Hear this, and be astonished: He can create you a second time; He can cause you to be born again.

This is a miracle of grace, but the Holy Ghost will perform it. It would be a very wonderful thing if one could stand at the foot of the Niagara Falls, and could speak a word which should make the river Niagara begin to run up stream, and leap up that great precipice over which it now rolls in stupendous force. Nothing but the power of God could achieve that marvel; but that would be more than a fit parallel to what would take place if the course of your nature were altogether reversed.

All things are possible with God. He can reverse the direction of your desires and the current of your life, and instead of going downward from God, He can make your whole being tend upward toward God. That is, in fact, what the Lord has promised to do for all who are in the covenant; and we know from Scripture that all believers are in the covenant. Let me read the words again:
A new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and will give an heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19).

What a wonderful promise! And it is yea and amen in Christ Jesus to the glory of God by us. Let us lay hold of it; accept it as true, and appropriate it to ourselves. Then shall it be fulfilled in us, and we shall have, in after days and years, to sing of that wondrous change which the sovereign grace of God has wrought in us.

It is well worthy of consideration that when the Lord takes away the stony heart, that deed is done; and when that is once done, no known power can ever take away that new heart which He gives, and that right spirit which He puts within us. “The gifts and calling of God are without repentance “; that is, without repentance on His part; He does not take away what He once has given. Let Him renew you and you will be renewed.

Man’s reformations and cleanings up soon come to an end, for the dog returns to his vomit; but when God puts a new heart into us, the new heart is there forever, and never will it harden into stone again. He who made it flesh will keep it so. Herein we may rejoice and be glad forever in that which God creates in the kingdom of His grace.

To put the matter very simply–did you ever hear of Mr. Rowland Hill’s illustration of the cat and the sow? I will give it in my own fashion, to illustrate our Saviour’s expressive words–“Ye must be born again. ” Do you see that cat? What a cleanly creature she is! How cleverly she washes herself with her tongue and her paws! It is quite a pretty sight! Did you ever see a sow do that? No, you never did. It is contrary to its nature. It prefers to wallow in the mire.

Go and teach a sow to wash itself, and see how little success you would gain. It would be a great sanitary improvement if swine would be clean. Teach them to wash and clean themselves as the cat has been doing! Useless task. You may by force wash that sow, but it hastens to the mire, and is soon as foul as ever. The only way in which you can get a sow to wash itself is to transform it into a cat; then it will wash and be clean, but not till then!

Suppose that transformation to be accomplished, and then what was difficult or impossible is easy enough; the swine will henceforth be fit for your parlor and your hearth-rug. So it is with an ungodly man; you cannot force him to do what a renewed man does most willingly; you may teach him, and set him a good example, but he cannot learn the art of holiness, for he has no mind to it; his nature leads him another way.

When the Lord makes a new man of him, then all things wear a different aspect. So great is this change, that I once heard a convert say, “Either all the world is changed, or else I am.” The new nature follows after right as naturally as the old nature wanders after wrong. What a blessing to receive such a nature! Only the Holy Ghost can give it.

Did it ever strike you what a wonderful thing it is for the Lord to give a new heart and a right spirit to a man? You have seen a lobster, perhaps, which has fought with another lobster, and lost one of its claws, and a new claw has grown. That is a remarkable thing; but it is a much more astounding fact that a man should have a new heart given to him. This, indeed, is a miracle beyond the powers of nature.

There is a tree. If you cut off one of its limbs, another one may grow in its place; but can you change the tree; can you sweeten sour sap; can you make the thorn bear figs? You can graft something better into it and that is the analogy which nature gives us of the work of grace; but absolutely to change the vital sap of the tree would be a miracle indeed. Such a prodigy and mystery of power God works in all who believe in Jesus.

If you yield yourself up to His divine working, the Lord will alter your nature; He will subdue the old nature, and breathe new life into you. Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and He will take the stony heart out of your flesh, and He will give you a heart of flesh. Where everything was hard, everything shall be tender; where everything was vicious, everything shall be virtuous: where everything tended downward, everything shall rise upward with impetuous force.

The lion of anger shall give place to the lamb of meekness; the raven of uncleanness shall fly before the dove of purity; the vile serpent of deceit shall be trodden under the heel of truth.
I have seen with my own eyes such marvellous changes of moral and spiritual character that I despair of none. I could, if it were fitting, point out those who were once unchaste women who are now pure as the driven snow, and blaspheming men who now delight all around them by their intense devotion.

Thieves are made honest, drunkards sober, liars truthful, and scoffers zealous. Wherever the grace of God has appeared to a man it has trained him to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present evil world: and, dear reader, it will do the same for you. “I cannot make this change,” says one. Who said you could? The Scripture which we have quoted speaks not of what man will do, but of what God will do. It is God’s promise, and it is for Him to fulfill His own engagements.

Trust in Him to fulfill His Word to you, and it will be done. “But how is it to be done?” What business is that of yours? Must the Lord explain His methods before you will believe him? The Lord’s working in this matter is a great mystery: the Holy Ghost performs it. He who made the promise has the responsibility of keeping the promise, and He is equal to the occasion.

God, who promises this marvellous change, will assuredly carry it out in all who receive Jesus, for to all such He gives power to become the Sons of God. Oh that you would believe it! Oh that you would do the gracious Lord the justice to believe that He can and will do this for you, great miracle though it will be!

Oh that you would believe that God cannot lie! Oh that you would trust Him for a new heart, and a right spirit, for He can give them to you! May the Lord give you faith in His promise, faith in His Son, faith in the Holy Spirit, and faith in Him, and to Him shall be praise and honor and glory forever and ever! Amen.

The Superiority And Distinction Of Biblical Scripture – Spiritual Reading.

“Some, we are aware, would gladly persuade us that things are so totally changed since the Bible was penned, that we need other guidance than what its precious pages supply. They tell us that society is not what it was; that the human race has made progress; that there has been such a development in the powers of nature, science, and philosophy, that to maintain the sufficiency and supremacy of the Bible, at such a point in the world’s history, can only be regarded as childishness, ignorance, or imbecility.”

“Now, the men that tell us these things may be very clever and very learned; but we have no hesitation whatever in telling them that, in this matter, “They make a great mistake, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.” We cannot listen for a moment to men, however profound in their reading and thinking, who dare to treat God’s book as though it were man’s book, and speak of those pages that were penned by the all wise, almighty, and eternal God, as though they were the production of a shallow and short-sighted mortal.”

“It is important to see clearly that men must either deny that the Bible is the Word of God, or admit its sufficiency and supremacy in all ages and in all countries — in all stages and conditions of the human race. God has written a book for man’s guidance, and we argue that the book must be amply sufficient for man, no matter when, where, or how we find him.
But, let it not be supposed that we prefer ignorance to learning.”

“Let none imagine that we despise the discoveries of science, or treat with contempt the achievements of sound philosophy. Far from it. We honor them highly in their proper sphere. We could not say how much we prize the labors of these learned men who have consecrated their energies to the work of clearing the sacred text of the various errors and corruptions that, from age to age, had crept into it, through carelessness or infirmity of copyists, taken advantage of by a crafty and malignant foe.”

“Every effort put forth to preserve, to unfold, to illustrate, and to enforce the precious truth of Scripture, we most highly esteem. On the other hand, when we find men making use of their learning, their science and their philosophy, for the purpose of undermining the sacred edifice of divine revelation, we deem it our duty to raise our voice in the clearest and strongest way against them and to solemnly warn the reader against their destructive influence.”

Excerpt From – The Bible: Its Supremacy And Sufficiency By Charles Henry Mackintosh

Bible Verse:

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

How Should Christians And Believers Interpret Bible Scriptures – Spiritual Reading.

Biblical interpretation has become a major point of contention among many believers and christians. Different sects interpret Bible scripture differently and sometimes amidst all the religious, theological and philosophical debates and arguments, the truth can fall away.

The Jewish Rabbi will have a different take with many emphazising context ,history, language, culture and tradition.

The Catholic Priests will have their stand, advocating intense meditation, research, praying the rosary and asking mother Mary for guidance etc.

Ordinary believers will suggest believing whatever the clergy and Church leaders feed them during worship and fellowship services.

Despite all the chaos and confusion that comes with this subject, I think the answer is a simple one.

How do we interpret scripture and the Bible?

By the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would teach us all things.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26

In fact after his resurrection, Jesus had to open the minds of his disciples so that they could finally understand the scriptures. Jesus is the author and finisher of the Bible.

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

Trying to understand the Bible without his guidance or counsel is a waste of time and most often just leads to divisions, heresies, and wrong doctrines of men as is being evidenced in our world today by the various mis-interpretations of various scriptures.

My prayer is that the Lord will open our eyes and ears so that we can be able to hear and see his Holy Spirit who will guide our hearts in all truth.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2. through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4. perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5: 1-5

“Prayer does not mean that I am to bring God down to my thoughts and my purposes, and bend his government according to my foolish, silly, and sometimes sinful notions. “I firmly believe that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and self-seeking and every thing that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Ghost will come and fill every corner of our hearts; but if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and self-seeking and pleasure and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God; and I believe many a man is praying to God to fill him when he is full already with something else.”

– Dwight Lyman Moody

“It may be that at this moment every battlement of heaven is alive with the redeemed. There is a sainted mother watching for her daughter. Have you no response to that long hushed voice which has prayed for you so often? And for you, young man, are there no voices there that have prayed for you? And are there none whom you promised once to meet again, if not on earth, in heaven?”

Prayer Is A Shield To The Soul – Prayer And Devotional Quotes – John Bunyan.

“The reason why the Christians in this day are at such a loss as to some things is that they are contented with what comes from man’s mouth, without searching and kneeling before God to know of Him the truth of things.”

John Bunyan

– John Bunyan

“Here is the life of prayer, when in or with the Spirit, a man being made sensible of sin, and how to come to the Lord for mercy; he comes, I say, in the strength of the Spirit, and crieth Father. That one word spoken in faith is better than a thousand prayers, as men call them, written and read, in a formal, cold, lukewarm way.”

– John Bunyan

“The best prayer I ever prayed had enough sin to damn the whole world.”

– John Bunyan

“There is enough sin in my best prayer to send the whole world to Hell.” – John Bunyan

“Take heed of driving so hard after this world, as to hinder thyself and family from those duties towards God, which thou art by grace obliged to; as private prayer, reading the scriptures, and Christian conference. It is a base thing for men so to spend themselves and families after this world, as that they disengage their heart to God’s worship.”

“Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.”

– John Bunyan

“It is not the mouth that is the main thing to be looked at in prayer, but whether the heart is so full of affection and earnestness in prayer with God, that it is impossible to express their sense and desire; for then a man desires indeed, when his desires are so strong, many, and mighty, that all the words, tears, and groans that can come from the heart, cannot utter them.”

We need not, when abed, to lie awake to talk with God, he can visit us while we sleep, and cause us then to hear his Voice. Our heart oft-times wakes when we sleep, and God can speak to that, either by words, by proverbs, by signs and similitudes, as well as if one was awake.”

– John Bunyan

“Sincerity is the same in a corner alone, as it is before the face of the world. It knows not how to wear two vizards, one for an appearance before men, and another for a short snatch in a corner; but it must have God, and be with him in the duty of prayer. It is not lip-labour that it doth regard, for it is the heart that God looks at, and that which sincerity looks at, and that which prayer comes from, if it be that prayer which is accompanied with sincerity.”
