Little, big me singing and exciting the masses on stage with my lyrical voice.
I don’t think many people can actually handle the stress and hard work it takes to be a celebrity.
The long hours of rehearsals, dressing up, makeup, smiling when you don’t feel like it, trying to appear perfect when you are just as imperfect as everyone else.
Friends, it’s hard work. Being a celebrity is not as fancy as many imagine.
And therefore, instead of being a celebrity, I’m here today, to celebrate our servicemen.
Not Doctors, Nurses, Policemen or Army officers.
Today I’m here to celebrate our Mega Pastors, Reverends, Priests, Music stars, Movie actors/actresses, Sportsmen and women.
The people who put themselves out there. The people we judge and ridicule (We tend to use a different judgment scale for them separate to ours).
We think just because they have talents and are willing to share those attributes with the world, they are not human.
Just as a by the way, every human has talents. Some are just too lazy to do anything with theirs. They are just much more comfortable hating others when they succeed and living with envy and jealousy.
But enough with the digress and back to our servicemen. We often think it takes little or no work to appear on a big movie screen and appear perfect.
I’m here to tell you that it takes a lot of work and calories.
Much more energy than sitting in front of the Telly, popcorn in one hand and tea(my favorite) or soda in the other hand, and grinning side to side.
It takes a lot of work and calories.
To get up in the morning (more than once a week in most cases), wear a nice suit or cassock and get in front of a congregation and give hope, inspiration and encouragement.
It takes a lot of work and calories to go visit sick people in homes, hospitals, to hold frail hands and give time even Doctors and other health workers are too busy to give.
To visit orphanages, and stand in the hot blazing sun with Bible in hand and thirst in the throat.Friends!
It takes a lot of hard work and calories.
More hard work than we ever imagine.
And it doesn’t make any of our servicemen men any less human.
These people who entertain us, fill our screens, make us laugh, give us joy.
They still use the toilets, they still need to eat, they have the same biology, chemistry and physiology like the rest of us.
They feel pain, they have flesh, they have red blood, they have feelings and emotions.
You think I’m kidding?
Well, next time you see your pastor, ask him if he does any of the above things.
The only difference (and differences are human. No two people are ever the same) is that they are more courageous!
Yes! They are braver!
Some or if not all of them are more broken than us but it never stops them from sharing their divinity with us.
And instead of appreciating their efforts what do we do?
We judge them. We call them names. We accuse of them numerous sins. We abuse them.
As if they should sin any different from us.As if they were suddenly transported out of our world into another universe or planet. It’s as if they don’t feel the sun, rain, and other natural elements.
We are so full of ungratefulness and self-righteousness. We have really become so unfeeling and hardhearted.
We even call some of them evil and after we have convicted them, we offer punishment by sending them straight to hell.I’m telling you, on Judgement day, many of us will be surprised who gets to heaven and who goes to hell.
I tell you we are going to be in for shockers!!!
Let Mega pastors have their jets. They have worked for it.
Let Priests have their wine and food, they have earned it.
Let Movie actresses and actors have their mansions, they deserve it. Let Sportsmen and women have their luxurious cars, they sweat for it.
These people pay and sacrifice so much more for their wealth.
Now over to the Bible. You didn’t think I would leave out that power book?
Yes, the Bible says!
Ohhhh! How I love that book.
That every workman is due their pay. In fact, let me copy and paste here from the NIV.
1 Timothy: 5. 17. The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. 18. For Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages."
2 Thessalonians: 3. 10. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat." 11. We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
Ephesians: 4.28. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
I have many scriptures on this subject (and no I’m not cherry picking). I could go deeper with this discourse but due to times constraints, I will defer this to another time.
Finally, friends let us not spend our time judging and judging and judging.
We don’t know the whole story! No one ever tells the whole story. Only God knows all the details.
Our Pastors, Priests, Movie stars and celebrities deserve all their wealth because they are working for it.
And don’t come telling me about scheming, excuses and justifications etc.
Those of you who put money in Church baskets, do it willing. Those who pay money in movie theaters do it willing. Those who pay for stadium space, do it smiling.
Stop acting like anyone deceives you into paying, spending, giving, sowing.
If you are relying on pastors to read your Bibles for you, so that they come and share on Sunday, to bless you and lift you up, shut up and stop spreading negativity around for your own laziness in devotion to God.
You forget that you are the same person who is first to run to Church for counseling when a life storm hits you.
People please, please!
Let’s spend more time loving and helping and less time doing frivolous and hateful things.
Have a blessed week and let’s get working.
- My voice is terrible. It’s so terrible I don’t even dare sing in the shower lest I scare off the neighbours so I stay away from singing but I do enjoy listening to others.
- I’m a regular girl with minimal talents who is on a journey to know God and, I don’t claim to be an expert in anything.
